Team of the Year - Centre Half Back

I got a fair bit of stick last year for saying Ryan Ferguson was the best CHB in the League.

Anyone want to disagree with me and the Magarey Medal votes this year? :)

Agree that he is the best CHB in the league

BUT i don't thnk Magarey Medal votes is proof of this, would Archard and Ezard be the first two midfielders you would pick in your side if you had the whole of the SANFL to do so.

I agree with you, WHUFC, medal votes are only an indication, but in this case a very good indication.

As for the first two midfielders I'd pick, I'm not sure who I'd pick second, but I'd take Jimmy Ezard first :D

By the way, for any media people reading, it's pronounced

Eezard, not Ezzard.

You can take him and ill ponder over, I.Callinan, C.O'Sullivan, M.Slade, C & J.Gowans, S.Dutschke or B.O'Hara ;)

Didn't Ferguson spend some time up forward this season? I know he definitely played up forward against Norwood earlier in the year.

Yes and he even was in Ruck for the State Game

My point is, how much time did he spend up forward, and how would this effect a spot at CHB if he didn't play there all season?

And the bloke who's coming second in the Snouts POTY (the Snouts have got the POTY matched with the B & F for the past 3 years), Kirk didn't get one vote.

Kirk will go very close to getting the Glenelg B & F, so IMO, I'll stick with the big Ranga for the time being....

He's a good player, but I'd hardly use Magarey votes as a reason to validate someone's standing. After all 2 blokes from Westies accounted for over half of the TOTAL for your whole team....

Which never happens for the Eagles, and that's why we haven't won one from 1991.

I reckon Paul Thomas would be one of my first picked...

Also has versatility to play off half back as well...

I reckon he played max 3 games up forward over the year. McKenzie got CHB last year playing in defence nowhere near as much as the Ferg has.

He's in then. Clearly the best CHB in the SANFL.

Good allows me to pick Dutchke, Thomas, one of two Gowans, Ben Kane, Ty Allen or Byron Murphy. Don't get me wrong Ezard is a very good player (like all good Westies players will probably end up at the Bay anyway ;) ) and is not far off those blokes but I'll pick half a dozen players over him anytime.

Going to be interesting to watch Chris Hall in 2010 with a pre-season under his belt....

There is a reson why Glenelg and Centrals finished ahead of the other teams in 2009, quality midfielders.

However back to the thread at hand yes Ferguson will be picked at CHB in the team of the year. Lucky for him McLeay has been injured for most of the year so is ineligible.... ;)

The Sportsbeat Team Of The Year will be published tomorrow, but will read it out on tonight's RPH Show. R&B, I'll spare you the suspense now to say you may be happy with one selection in it already :)

Thanks for that, CK, I'll definitely be listening :)

am Bays, mate, just for once admit that Ferguson is the best CHB, along with the rest of the football public who have caught up with that fact. Ferguson 'lucky' that McLeay was injured? Sure....

As for other mid-fielders, I was asked who I'd pick first. I'm a Blood's supporter. I'm biased.

I went for our Magarey Medallist. He's long been one of my favourite players.

All the others mentioned are great players, too.

R&B I genuinely rate McLEay as the better backman however I rate Ferguson too, very highly. I also don't pretend that my opinion is gospel as my position on McLeay has been weakend by the fact that Norman obviously doesn't rate him enough to be selected in Sturt's league side.....

Without buying into who is the better CHB, credit to Ferguson for being the one player in the top 20 Magarey votegetters who is a key position player.

I doubt it was about rating McLeay high enough, it was about big match readiness after a long term injury.

Ferguson wasn't much chop against Sturt this year, even with a quality midfielder like Eeeeezard playing and "stemming the flow" LOL ;) So what I've seen of him hasn't impressed me that much...just my opinoin though - I'm sure he's a decent player against all the other clubs ;)
