Where should State games be played ?

Postby Ian » Wed May 31, 2006 11:17 pm

I was just reading a topic on footysa which raised the question, so I thought I would put a poll up here.
After attending the game last week, I though it lacked atmosphere at Adelaide with a crowd of just 5,000, so perhaps there is merit in moving them to a smaller venue, where the smaller crowds would still create a great atmosphere, as well as the added bonus of being able to go onto the ground at 1/4, 3/4, and full time.

Agreed fully with Blue Boy.
Marketed correctly and played at the right time it could get 10,000.
Unfortunately with the SANFL's track record I don't think it will ever be marketed correctly though.

In the event that Adelaide Oval isn't available, I'm thinking Norwood Oval.

But Adelaide should remain the home of State League matches.

Melbourne and Perth are different, they don't have grounds like Adelaide Oval at their disposal. Port Melbourne was good though because of its proximity to the city... and nearby pub.

The VFL probably wont ever use Carlton, which could be a good VFL Grand Final venue if they reduced its capacity to 18000. The WAFL have Fremantle Oval and probably even Leederville.

Wait a minute... we don't really care as long as there's a nice boozer nearby.

Have to be played at Adelaide Oval. Just play them maybe a sunday arvo if no AFL game in town of course. Probably would have drawn
a crowd of around 7500 if it was played sunday this year.

The advantage with playing at Thebarton is that its a neutral venue and no club makes any coin over another for hosting the game there, when Adelaide Oval gets its redevelopment I do think that Thebby will offer far more atmosphere than Football Park with half of its grandstands removed!

I certainly hope so, even though this new Champions League may jeopardise that Intra-State League game...

Was already planning and looking forward to the LifeFM road trip and footy Fest to Melbourne for the SA v VIC game next season...

Where is the Football Park option - don't the SANFL still own it and they and the clubs therefore have a financial interest in using it?
