EAGLES APPOINT GODDEN AS SENIOR COACH FOR NEXT 3 YEARS
Following an extensive recruitment process, the Woodville West Torrens Football Club
(WWTFC) is delighted to announce Michael Godden as Senior Coach of the Eagles for the
next three years.
Godden, who was drafted to the Adelaide Crows in 1992, played 89 League and 56 Reserves
matches for West Adelaide between 1993 and 2002 when he was finally forced to retire due
to a debilitating knee injury.
Post his playing career, Godden has spent time in Assistant Coaching positions and as
Reserves Coach at both the West Adelaide and Glenelg Football Clubs.
Of the appointment, Eagles President Kurt Slaven said “Michael Godden emerged as the
outstanding candidate throughout all stages of what was a rigorous process”.
“Michael’s abilities to communicate, lead and teach are exceptional and have ultimately seen
him achieve premiership success at Reserves level, as well as acknowledgement that his work
at Senior Assistant level has been of high quality”.
“Being chosen by the SANFL as the South Australian U/20 State Coach in 2008 and Assistant
Coach of the Senior South Australian State Team in 2009 is testament to this quality”
“We believe that in Michael Godden we have secured an individual with the necessary virtues
to take the Club forward in 2010 and beyond”
On the appointment Godden said “I am delighted to be given the opportunity to take over as
Senior Coach at such a wonderful Club at the conclusion of the 2009 season”.
“I will be aiming to build on the high standards the Club has set for itself under Ron Fuller,
whilst putting my own stamp on the way the Eagles will go about their work”.
“I’d like to thank both the Eagles and Glenelg for the way the process has been handled by
the two Clubs. For now, my attention has to turn to making sure I complete my commitments
to Glenelg for the remainder of the 2009 season”.

Why would it be an interesting time to make the coaching annoucement? Both Fuller and Godden have made it known they would not be continuing with their current clubs, plus all the leaks/guesses were on the mark, so let the supporters know.

Yes, and it stops all of that by making it known for sure.

It was just a thought, could this now add more pressure to the players knowing that the next years coach is watching, could this work the other way as the players try to impress the new coach.
It's not very often teams announce next years coach in the middle of a finals campaign.

A club doesn't chase someone that hard to apply for a job if they don't want him to do it.
Will be a great appointment for the Eagles and great to see Micky doing well for himself he deserves some luck in his football career, as a coach, as he didn't get any as a player thats for sure.
I had to laugh at the extensive recruitment process part of the statement to members though that wasn't totally true

.

No problems CCL i would too be wary and find it hard to believe that a supporter of another club knew who my club was chasing for a coach if they weren't saying who it was.
But yes i was confident Godden would get the job a few weeks ago.

Top bloke one of the best blokes I've met in footy, a great appointment for the Eagles. I susppose that means Gatesy will go with him too. Boo.
Good luck Mick all the best you've been a great servant of the Glenelg Footy Club no-one can doubt your commitment to the club whilst you have been with us. Go off and learn about being the main man, then when Rubbers decides to hang up his whistle at the Bay you will be more than welcome back at Brighton Rd.
