dogs win. they do this constantly, just save it for when they need it most...plenty of mistakes sturt...need to improve the game...we are not playing against the lesser likes now...

well done dogs, just knew when to turn it on...sturt had their chances with about 8 missed shots from inside 50...could have had more pressure on the dogs in the 3rd and been up by 7 goals instead of only 3. they gave them room to come back which they did.

Too good doggies. Once again the Blues struggle at the business end. Suddenly next week against Port becomes a concern

I think there's a little TOO much pessimism in the comments above. I thought the Blues weren't too bad tonight. When the Dogs were ready to throw down the challenge in the third term kicking that early goal, Sturt were able to push through the adversity and slam home three majors of their own to go 18 points up... but that's when I think Centrals deserve some real credit. The challenge was then put to them and the Dogs responded in kind and really worked their way forward time and time again to put 4 more on the board and take a small lead into the last change. The wind wasn't as strong in the second half, but Centrals still did well to strangle Sturt in the last and win by 18 points.

So for me, I thought it was good performance from the Doggies on a large ground in difficult conditions. They're certainly around the mark as expected and can look forward to challenging Glenelg, Sturt, Torrens and North for the main prize. For Sturt, despite the loss, which was a few points better than I expected, I thought they also showed they're around the mark and more than capable of knocking off the Dogs in the majors.

As was said in the preview thread, this game didn't really mean much in my opinion. It certainly helps the Dogs possibly grab top spot, but in the end I think it will be shown to be 2 more premiership points for the Dogs that they didn't need and 2 lost premiership points for Sturt that they won't miss. Neither side was humiliated, so really its a fortnight from now that matters. A few Dogs supporters and Sturt supporters said as much earlier in the week...

So congrats to Centrals, I thought it was a good win, but as a Sturt supporter, I'm not downhearted.

What a great effort by the Dogs after being under the pump early in the third quarter then shifting up a gear to dominate for the rest of the game.

Spot on. Plus most supporters froze their goolies off. Looking forward to next week at Coopers then the real stuff starts.

From a Glenelg perspective, if we can't beat Torrens and West we don't deserve top spot. Mind you Sturt probably rolled over in the last half to spite Glenelg....

Put it this way, if we can't beat Torrens and West we don't deserve top spot.

That's a little unfair on those two teams. After all they both beat us earlier in the year.

Just some quick observations.

1. well done Central
2. Sturt, whilst still right up there, must have some real self doubts now
3. top spot isn't as important as some people seem to think
4. the proper name for the Eagles is the Woodville West Torrens Football Club

Sturt lost the reserves Didn't have the heart to enquire by how much-I had asked one of the players!

Well done doggies! Good effort, even though we had the most potentially on the line to lose. Special mention to Buckets (against two ruckmen for a large part of the night), Callinan and the crowd for venturing out into a very cold night.

Sturt were 3 goals up at one stage (courtesy of some cheap free kicks from the umpires) and should of been in front more but they tired in the 3rd quarter and the Dogs finally started getting some clean ball and just ran over the top of them...

Great to see "Ralph The Mouth" (Sturt supporter down the southern end with the beanie) didn't go home unchallenged...deadset, he is one of the biggest bozo's going around...

Great to see the umpires coping it as they came off the ground after the match...

Big plus for the dogs is to play that poorly for so long, get smashed for the whole second quarter, play 3 quarters with one ruckman, give away so many free kicks through bad discipline (and for one of the few times I think the umpires really lost the plot in the second quarter), cough up golden chances like J. Gowans being run down in the goal square and still win the game.

Apart from the second quarter when nobody was particularly good at all, I thought Callinan, McKenzie, Lawry and Dutchske were probably our best overall. Tom Dunne looks like he can play the level, but hard to see him holding his spot when Slade returns (oddly neither injured nor playing accoring to the budget!) while Havelberg's return can't come quick enough as we're obviously one tall short up front. Hope Griffin manages to find his leg underneath all that ice in time to play next week, otherwise Giles gets a golden chance to win another year at the power.

Sturt will sweat on the report of Sheedy (I think it was Sheedy) for mine it's clearly guilty just a question of the penalty. Would probably expect 1 week going on what they've done with that sort of offence in the past. Although based on his game it won't hurt much, because he really didn't seem to do too much. Chambers well held and no alternate avenue to goal. I thought Perrie was going to be a saviour to this issue last season but that was proven to not be the case. Sturt really need to find someone else to be a threat up there. Apart from Chambers they have just one player who averages more than 1 goal a game, and that's Herring at 1.2 a game. Compare that with Centrals who have D. Schell, C. Gowans, J. Gowans, I. Callinan, C. O'Sullivan and E. Sansbury it tells a tale. And the other top 3 team has 4 playing this week. And the dogs and bays might be welcoming back D. Havelberg and T. Grima for the finals.

Anyway, roll on the finals. Unlike other people I do rate the last matchup before the finals as a nice confidence booster, especially if you win and feel you could do better. Ahh, the smell of finals in the air. And isn't so much fresher without Port?

According to the radio it was Fittock (who looks nothing like Sheedy) so thank goodness you're not on the tribunal!

also intersting to note is that we never play well against a flood, we need to find a way through that...having herring and johncock as our other avenues to goal, not counting small forwards crane (who didnt play tonight but should be right for finals), gum, evans, trengove etc, its hard to get them the ball when all 36 plyaers are in your f 50...norman, find an answer to the dogs and bays style of play or we'll be never was's before we can be hasbeens!!!
