Glenelg 17 year old Hayden Jolly has agreed to terms with the Gold Coast Football Club and will head to Queensland later this year. Currently playing Reserves at the Bay, the right footer comes with big wraps from interim GC coach Guy McKenna, who stated that he has great scope for natural development and can be used in a variety of roles around the ground.

Jolly joins five other 17 year olds signed from the TAC Cup competition, Calder's Joshua Toy, Dandenong's Matt Shaw, Trent McKenzie (Western Jets) and Tasmanians Maverick Weller and Luke Russell.

Gold Coast are able to sign 12 17 year olds, born between January and April 1992.

no problem with him signing.......well done!

but taking him out of the state to play in the VFL surely is not good for his developement.......

I would have thought him playing here would be much better and settling for him......

Nope VFL. The Life Savers are playing in it next year (except for Karmichael Hunt who is playing Rugby in Japan  )

And congrats Hayden too !!

My understanding is that the 17 year-olds can opt to stay in their home state for the first year after drafted.
By the way, does anyone know if Haydn's dad is Harvey, the former State cricketer?
