Unbelievable that there are more people that claim allegiance to Eagles than North, making the roosters the 7th most supported!

Yeah, just 'coz you wear a Red & White scarf to Roosters games doesn't mean you support them. ;)

Just goes to show 2 things.
1) The average North supporter is too old to even know what the internet is (this was an online poll)

2) Going on crowd numbers compared to the online support question we have the highest % of supporters that go to games regularly and hence the least amount of bandwagonners and the highest % of true supporters.

Both points are exactly what we all knew beforehand anyway. :D

Thanks for that Wedgie.

My thoughts on the findings: not worried about the doggies % as they have a very high support in Northern suburbs where they are based - means that supporters are much more likey to actuual go to games. Anyway attendance and club membership is a more reliable indicator of a true supporter.

The low appeal of teh under 25s for South and West is a woryy for their future!

As to the conclusion that the under 25s are less likey to have suffered a decrease in interest  - of course the are, they are the ones who have just taken up an interest #-o

I think people also should take into account that these findings were taken from the same online poll that deemed Cameron Ling as the sexiest man playing AFL football!

Who do you think the sexiest man playing footy is Wedgie?

Probably Paul Chapman when he took that mark over Tredrea in the 2007 GF or Otto when he chased down and tackled that Power player.
I was very aroused that day!

Back on topic.

Interesting that on the very day that a survey is published showing more than 85% of football fans having an interest in SANFL football, the SANFL go out of their way to make sure this won't be the case in five years time.

Well done Chandler, the Snouts were right about you all along. Arrogant, pompous and knows next to nothing about the competition he's nominally supposed to protect.

Correction Topsy - 85% of people who responded to a survey on the SANFL site had an interest in SANFL. The main question in my mind is why did 15% of the survey bother to look at the site and then fill in their survey :?

I bet most of the survey respondents were AFL fans who if the truth be known their supposed interest in the SANFL doewsn't extend past be checking the scores in the Sunday Mail.

Survey is a joke!

You find that it was also in the paper. I can remember seeing it in the Sunday Mail or The Adevertiser

I have attached the results from the 2006 Advertiser Poll (I know I need to get a life). They are as follows:

Port 20.8
Sturt 14.7
North 14.6
Norwood 13.5
Glenelg 11.2
Eagles 7.9
Central 6.7
West 5.7
South 4.9

Have more than half of the North supporters died in the past three years? Most other clubs figures haven't changed much.

Wouldn't surprise me as half of our supporters back then would have been about 90.
I raised the average age and lack of kids as a huge concern at North a few years ago, I was ignored.

ROFLMFAO

This week the SANFL Commission (Darren Chandler) surveyed 9 club representatives and "a majority" agreed to reduce the salary cap, amongst other changes.

On the other hand, a survey of 4,413 people re the SANFL yielded this result -
32.8% of fans who responded said "Yes, please reduce the salary cap". 67.2% of fans who responded said "gefugged!".

Yeah, ironically Chandler is quoted in the article as saying that "the league is delighted by the feedback". So 2/3 of respondents want no reduction in the cap, and they are delighted with the response, but they reduce it anyway.

They're delighted that almost 40% of people that responded are showing a decline in interest in the SANFL?
At this rate we'll have 3 people following the SANFL in 2015.
Must be a misquote, noone could be that stupid, surely?

The whole "decline in interest" question is a sham.

Participants were only given the option of interest declining or not declining
There was not option for interest increasing, given crowd increases over recent years its fair question.

Also over what time frame are we talking, last 12 months, last 5 years, last 20 years (ie before Crows)?

The quesion should have been

Over the past five years has your interest in the SANFL
( ) Increased
( ) Stayed the same
( ) Decreased

As a guide over recent surveys

Interest in SANFL

No Interest
2006 - 8.2%
2008 - 9.8%
2009 - 6.7%

Mild Interest
2006 - 50.9%
2008- 56.1%
2009 - 50.7%

Strong Interest
2006 - 40.9%
2008 - 34.2%
2009 - 42.6%

Either Mild or Strong Interest
2006 - 91.8%
2008 - 90.3%
2009 - 93.3%

Doesn't this show that interest in the SANFL is increasing?

Sturts went up to 18.7%.
