Bays lucky yet again to get the points. Been that way all year. Can't see why everyone is calling us " Flag Favourites ". We've been very fortunate to be where we are. BUT.... a win is a win.
GO BAYS !

Pretty ugly game not played with the intensity of previous weeks, good to get the win but we still arent playing well, Roar was sensational, WilloB solid and that was about it....Norwood tried all day, a bit like the Port game teams seem to hunt us these days...
AFL Players IMO -
Carr/Meyer serviceable
Salopek pretty good
Douglas terrible, would not want to play like that again otherwise he might be kicking the dew
Walker was solid but needs to do more
Good to get the win and move on...

Carr in the centre square in the last qtr was exceptional. His grunt and ability to frustrate the opposition was particularly pleasing(twice the retaliator got caught due to frustration). Glenelg were being monstered in there and Carr's in and under along with Ty Allen got us across the line. Kirkby B.O.G in my opinion.

Salopek was pretty quiet early, improved in the last term and managed 1.2 from memory. His day could've been a lot better had he kicked a few gettable goals in the last term. He was good, but a far cry from what he can be.
Meyer was okay, didn't notice him much. Ditto with Carr but to tell you the truth I wasn't looking out for him much. Douglas just didn't find enough of the ball and his man hurt him the other way.

Enjoyable day, humbling to meet the great MAL ... and bayman, littlebayman and cje. The banter between MAL and littlebayman was worth paying to see on its own.
I thought the Legs were terrific today ... worked hard for most of the day and never gave up, but the delivery to their forwards (looked like they had practiced the helicopter kick as that was the preferred type of entry) and a couple of lapses cost them dearly. Certainly a big improvement on the pathetic effort at the Parade earlier this year.
The Bays played some good footy at times and withstood the pressure from the Legs but also had their own lapses. While I expected a much more comfortable win, was not unhappy with the effort in the end but still room for improvement.
A positive was the accuracy for goal ... nearly fell over when they kicked the first 6 straight.
So onward to Prospect next week before the bye.

I think Sal was quiet early due to him playing the grandstand wing and Glenelg's obsession with going to the outer side at all times when kicking into the breeze.

I think the reason Sal was quiet early is due to him playing the grandstand wing. Glenelg has an obsession of playing only the outer wing when working into the breeze.

Colin Rowston gave the bays the ultimate favour in the last qtr. This bloke just itches to give frees off the ball. Ruined the game.
I thought the legs played one of their best games for the year. Hit the ball hard and the pressure and tackling was intense. Made the bays look soft many times.
Proud of the boys for their effort. Very much deserved to win today.
Glenelg premiership favourites? From what I saw today far from it.

Norwood very played well, no doubt, but I'm not sure they
deserved to win today ... how often were the Legs in front in the 2nd half and they were nearly 4 goals down with less than 10 mins to play ... and umpiring played no part in the result I'm afraid.
I thought when the Bays were 20 odd points up that it would have been an unfair reflection of the closeness of the game, but 10 points in the end was a fair result.

That's what I like to hear. More of it please, especially after a win !
Quite right Centurion, Sturt out and out flag favourites by a country mile !

Interesting how we as supporters see things differently depending on our allegiances .. Whilst I know the Bays have much more ability and system as a group, I reckon you guys were gifted a few goals at crucial times today.
I agree that I dont think we looked deserving winners today, but Im not sure that either side really did ... I think the Bays have a LOT more ability than they showed today and I hope they can, because a lift in intensity will most certainly be needed come finals time.

True ... this will be a never ending discussion but I was just responding to the comment that
Norwood very much deserved to win today.
By my book if you're up by the vast majority of the 2nd half and win by 10 points when the opposition kick the last 2 goals then most people would concede that you don't deserve to lose.
On the umpires, well we must have been at different matches today ... if the Bays received some frees up forward then the Legs might look at their discipline. Umpires don't win games, players do for mine, always have and always will but I could be wrong ... I must be stupid because I've
never blamed umpiring for a Bays loss because you can't control what you can't control.
It's OK if you want to blame umpires, but I assume you'll gladly hand Sturt the '78 premiership flag for
that free/mark/whatever Gaggs received in the last quarter. Didn't matter back then? ... thought so.

At the end of the day, Norwood should be fairly proud the way their team played today and I rate that win against them because of that ... and Taylor Walker is too good for this level of comp.
Cheers ...

Cue for someone to bump the Sturt to Win the Flag Thread ...

Isn't it amazing how you can post for years, but the one time you suggest umpires appeared influential, you get tarred as blaming them for the loss.
Of course if you hadn't made certain errors in a game, the adjudications would be irrelevant, but I genuinely believe the Bays got some favours today that helped their cause .. Now whether our boys got some down the other end that I couldn't see I don't know, but Mr Rowston definitely gave your boys a helping hand from where I stood, when the game was still well alive.
That doesn't mean I think our boys were the better team on the park, but to be honest it would be hard to seperate the 2 today IMHO.
