Sturt must have improved their kicking as the day went on, weren't they down 3.0 to 0.8 at one stage?

Wasn't there today but it seems we were lucky to get away with a win as were Centrals and Glenelg. Congratulations to Brant Chambers on kicking his 600th goal, I think he'd be on 604 now, well done.

Yep, wasted the breeze in the first term, just blazing away without settling and missing gettable set shots.
The breeze was a tad tricky though.
Chambo also landed the ball on the very top of the RH goal post.

Chambo also landed the ball on the very top of the RH goal post,
That should be worth 8 points

At Unley last week against the Eagles us Sturt fans thought Richard Williams must have suffered some sort of personal crisis when he awarded Chambers 2 free kicks (one of them soft) in the same game - was he trying to make it up to the Sturt fans for all the pain and anguish he had caused over the years? Well today against South HE WAS BACK AT HIS ARROGANT BEST (pulling out decisions from all parts of the laws of the game and a few from his body parts - highlighted by the seemingly 2.5 kilometre penalty against the Sturt team for whatever - rumoured to be the Sturt Runner might have looked at Richard with bad karma. Don't we love Richard....

today was those hard fought wins which need to be done during the year, sturt won it in the third quarter when they kicked 9 goals with the breeze. to the south fans dont be disappointed, your side played very well and ran the ball well. another win is not that far away for your team.

I don't think its worth spending too much time on Sturt with this game. The Blues had enough of the ball in the first term, but South were the one's who capitalised the best with the limited opportunities they had. The second term saw South shade Sturt once again, they were kicking some wonderful goals and while there always looked like the possibility of a Sturt comeback, South always managed to get a reply goal for every Sturt major, so the half time lead of around 3 goals was well deserved.
The third term brought what all South fans (no doubt) were hoping not to see. I feel the team might have gone defensive momentarily, bringing Warren into defence at times, which was strange considering he booted 4 in the first half. But that said, Sturt did turn it on, finally got some run and played with purpose, as a result, they hammered home around 8 goals (5 to Chambers that term) to 3 for the term to take control, handy lead going into the last and it remained to be seen whether South would fight or give up.
Well South did fight, once again beating Sturt in the quarter, kicking 3 majors to 1, but alas for them not enough to win. Sturt were outplayed in the 1st, 2nd and 4th quarters but managed to get the 2 points.
I'm pleased we won, but no justice in football here... South were the more commited side on the day.

So can we sum this game up as the 'Cafe Conflict' ?
South were red hot.
They looked like causing a boil over.
It was heading towards a 'far-cup'.
Williams managed to stir it all up.
Finally the cream rose to the top.
Game over.

Just finished listening to my recording of Life's call of the Port/Glenelg clash.
Bloody frightening just listening to updates! They did a great job of providing as much news as they could from around the grounds...but the score from Hickinbotham was usually preceeded by "...and the upset....from Hickinbotham.." followed by the score which generally had South up by about 3 or 4 goals. I always feared it would be a higher difference, especially from the enthusiasm the caller put in to the updates.
Nice to win a close one. So far this year it seems we either massacre sides after getting up early, or we lose by any possible margin. Winning a close one could be a handy experience coming into the latter stages of the season. Good to see we didn't simply crumble as we did against North and Glenelg.
Thanks for the scare Panthers. Very glad to escape with the points.

To win three of the 4 quarters and not come up with the points is very disappointing. The quarter we lost was diabolical though, Sturt managed 9 for the quarter. At the moment there is far too much gap between our good and our bad, until we can manage 4 consistent quarters against we wont get a win.
Special mention to Alex Split who did a great job tagging Sheedy, he is just one of 8-10 juniors who are showing promise.

Mate you didn't kick a goal in the last 1/4 and only won by 11pts. 4.3 to 1pt in the last 1/4, I'd say you were lucky to win no matter how much you were up.

Not luck at all mate, lead from start to finsih won by more than a goal and had we kicked straight we would have pumped them, not luck we were clearly the better team on the day.
