Rnd 16 - Central v Eagles @ Elizabeth

So how will both sides react to dissapointing losses last weekend ? Should make for another great clash between these 2 modern day rivals.

The Dogs owe the Eagles one for their last clash at Woodville, while Ron Fuller's men admit they always lift for clashes against the Dogs.

Central will be hoping to make amneds for the upset loss to the Bloods and will be hoping to welcolme back a couple of key players from injury. Defender Yves Sibenaler may return from a hamstring complaint whilst goal sneak Ian Callinan may also resume from the same concern.

The Eagles have some injury concerns from their loss to the Double Blues with Passador doing his hamstring again and Peter Fiacchi suffering from a hip compliant. With the poor performance from the Power on the weekend and Dom Cassisi saying there will be wholesale changes, a couple of well performed Eagles players, in Matthew Broadbent and Nick Salter, could earn themselves an AFL gig this weekend and miss this game.

There is some talk as well that Justin Westhoff may be sent back to the SANFL and play for the Dogs so will make for an interesting week at the selection table. Do the Dogs make some players accountable for their recent poor performances and send them back to the 2's giving opportunities to the likes of Ben nason, Luke Barmby and Luke Habel or do they stick with what they have ?

The Dogs will be keen to atone for their dissapointing showing last week so I'll tip them at this stage by 4 or 5 goals.

I don't think Roy will drop James Thiele, but there would be a few Doggies fans, and of course other club supporters, out there that think he probably should be.

I'm not sure as to whether I'd drop him or not if I were the coach, I guess we will have to wait and see until Thursday when the teams come out.

Both the Gowans (in fact the whole team) have a lot of respect for Roy Laird.

Whatever he says to James we will probably never know because Roy is very discreet. And I have confidence that the most appropriate way of dealing with this issue will be used.

Both the Gowans play with passion. Every time the go on the field the put in 100% for a win. Sometimes that passion goes a bit far. That doesn't excuse it but on the balance they have made a huge contribution with a couple of blemishes.

I think both Adam Switala and Charles Slattery should be considered for league selection at Central this week as they have both been in excellent form in the reserves the last few games.

Yves Sibenaler: Hamstring - Test
Ian Callinan: Hamstring - 1 week
Daniel Havelberg: Hamstring - 4 weeks
Justin Hardy: Thigh - 3 weeks
Jonathon Griffin: Calf - Test
James Moss: Hip - indefinate
Ashley Duncan: Hamstring - 3 weeks
David Allocca: Hamstring - Test

There is definately some talent on the sidelines for the Dogs at present with some key position players in there as well.

With the injuries to the Dogs there it could make for an interesting contest although the Eagles have a couple of injury concerns of their own. My heart says Eagles but head says Central. It would take a massive form reversal for us to win this game but recent contests between the 2 clubs suggest it should be close. I'll reserve my tip on this one until I see the team selections.

EAGLES NEWS by H78 . Has the time come to finally call the choice of Passador over Schwarze a bust , or must we wait until seasons end ? Im calling bust now if only because as excellant as Passador has been at the club , his body has been shot for some time where as Schwarze is 25 years old and really only needs quality coaching to get the best out of him . He joins Luke Toia and John McCarthy as recruits that Fuller fell out with and sent packing . Sturt very good again and we have no excuses , but boy are they quick and move that ball quick or are we slow ? Im leaning towards the fact that the Eagles are slow . We must be fit , surely , its July ffs . Looking at our list on Saturday , only Petrenko is real fast , some like Macca & Cicca are football thinking quick , which is most desirable in a player ; the rest sometimes look quick if they have the ball and have a step , but compared to Sturts gamestyle  Even last week against Port , their speed in the first quarter just blew us away . They just didnt have the quality we did to sustain their gamestyle as Sturt or Glenelg did . When the Eagles win its a grinding win due to mainly our collective solid players combining and pressuring , thus outlasting the opposition . Teams we like to play , play like us ala Centrals . Teams we dont fancy ..... anyone with a quick onball group and play on style West , Sturt , Bays etc. . Fullers gameplan is different I know , but things and times change . Westbrook aside , recruiting Kenny Mc. & Cheep hasnt helped this problem either . This may seem a big call but I think we are the slowest team in the League bar none ........ seriously just stop and consider it for a few moments .......

We'd do much better playing against South, Central and Port all season.

U18s @ Fortress Woodville @ 11.15 am
Reserves @ Elizabeth @ 11.15 am
League @ Elizabeth @ 2 pm

With the U18s at Woodville means that I can not make the League game this week.

Barring injury at training and if selected Cicca will play his 200th game for the club. A banner (not the player, I wonder if Banner will go through the Banner) should be played sometime this week.

I have no idea what to think of this game after the performance on Saturday at unley.
Perhaps its time for youth again Dawson and Lane in the forward line and play as forwards
Pretty sure there's a certain fan club that would like Adam Grocke back in .

Would not even be considered to be dropped by the coaching staff.

Anyone who can comfortably say they can predict the result of this game is a liar, a conman or both! ;)

It could go so many ways ... hopefully will be a good game with both sides very keen to atone for last week.

The doggies have their home ground advantage but the Eagles seem to shape up well against them (like they do against the Bays  ).

So at this early stage ... f***ed if I know.

Forced outs with injury for this week will be Passador and Peter Fiacchi. Broadbent must get selected for the Power this week, surely. Burton I think will play one more game for the Eagles, given his form last week wasn't great and the Crows have a settled and strong forward line at the minute. With that in mind, I'd pick the following team:

F: Hill Salter Goldsworthy
HF: Burton Grocke Symmons
C: Allmond McKenzie Petrenko
HB: Jarrad McGregor Corbett
B: R Fiacchi Miles Powell
R: Dabrowski Cicolella Banner
I: Lane Redden Rimington

Ins: Grocke, Symmons, Corbett, Powell, Lane
Outs: Passador (inj), P Fiacchi (inj), Broadbent (AFL), Cheep, Smith

I thought some of the efforts to tackle last week were poor, particularly Cheep and Banner. And if Rimington is going to play in the back lines he has to be closer to his man - his discipline also hasn't improved - it cost us a game last year (vs North) and gave away a goal to Sturt last week.

I don't expect the Eagles to beat Central this week, but hopefully they put in a 100% effort for a club legend (Cicca) who'll be playing his 200th. The least Eagles supporters could do is make the trek out to Elizabeth in support of Cicca's 200th.
