Umpires wearing black armbands today

Postby Squawk » Mon Jul 13, 2009 12:58 am

Does anyone know why?
Is it related to the goal umpire who was critically injured in a car crash last year?

Um without being disrespectful that's the problem with black armbands - nobody knows why/when people wear them so why bother :?

Because it means something to the people wearing them ... they don't do it for attention.
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

Huh?
Au contraire.
That is exactly why they wear them otherwise - why?

Once upon a time we did all know. These days, we see them every weekend. Today the umps had them tho and I thought that was pretty rare and immediately thought of the goal umpire.

i've had to wear them, when in all honesty, it would've been more appropriate if the affected person wore it.
Ie if a relative/friend died, I would wear one, but not ask anyone else to.
If a club person dies, I think that's when they should be worn by the team.
