Our Reserves side was the only shining light in a dull day - winners by 90 odd points (can't remember the exact score) and back on top of the ladder there.

League side was far too slow, Sturts tactics in moving the ball on at all costs bamboozled our players apart from McKenzie. More fight was shown in the last half; you may say Sturt took the foot off the gas (not Chambers) but whose fault is that? 13.12 (90) looks better than 6.8 (44) or so, but the result is the same - no premiership points.

And it was nice to catch up with eddie eagle (thanks for the BBQ) and once_were_warriors.

Good win by the lads.
I thought Payne, Plant, Bode and Martin all played their best games for the club.
Coad was best on ground for mine.
Trengove had a terrific debut with 17 touches, all of them used well.
The kid is going to be a star and whoever was lucky enough to get their photo with him after the game will treasure that cause it will be worth a bit in a few years.
Vassal had a quieter 2nd half I thought but his attack on the footy and in the tackle was VERY hard.
Chambo kicked 7 and is fast approaching 600 for the club.
At only 28 he could very well reach the 900 mark by careers end.

Best for the Eagles I would say were Salter, Cicolella and Banner.

Sturt could have easily been 12 goals up at quarter time and our 2nd quarter was even worse than the first. A terrible display. The 2nd half was much better, but the game was already gone. Not the first time this year the result was done and dusted well before half time. Very disappointing given how important the game was.

Salter was our best. Broadbent was one of the few who put his hand up when the game was on the line early. McKenzie, Jarrad and Cicolella came into the game as it wore on.

Sturt have thoroughly outplayed us twice now this year, both on the small ground at Unley and the open spaces of Woodville.

Martin BOG by a mile IMO. He'll might get a call up before Birdbrain one would think.

Then again I just watched sports tonight and apperntly Birdman is ready to return to AwFL footy and he displayed his trademark leap to everyone today...??? He was slaughtered (but he wasnlt alone)

Funny, we said today that Burton's mark and goal would make the highlights reel... His game was far from a highlight (in his defence I don't think anyone could expect him to be back to his best after just a couple of games)...

A good performance from the Double Blues today. After a couple of disappointing (to say the least) performances against both North Adelaide and Glenelg, its been good to see them come back from the break and smash both West and Torrens.

I was particularly worried about today, as I felt we were a much better side, but the premiership table disagreed saying that we were only marginally better than the Eagles. However, I was glad to see us come out strong and really blow Torrens away without too much trouble in that first half. They barely got into their attacking half, while we continually pumped the ball in and amassed a strong lead. As other posters have said, game was over at half time and the second half was a bit of a non-event.

For Sturt, I think it keeps the confidence up and keeps us focused on that Qualifying Final, which will surely be against the Bulldogs, while for Torrens, well back to the drawing board and back to concentrating on sealing a finals spot.

agree CC, called to play on for no obvious reason after a mark, he thought it thru, little rolling handpass infront of himself, gathered, fended off a tackle, borked,(now I get blurred), maybe another, handpass, recieved it back and passes off foot. It didn't go un-noticed with Peter Jonas in the stands. Easily b.o.g for me.
Great show by "Cap'n Jack" Trengrove and Brad Vassal, guts and effort by him.
NOW!! To all the wingeing Eagle supporters(note I didn't call you the Weagles, Wiggles etc, bit of respect shown, take note Eagles fans that choose not to show respect to a club's name), last game all I heard behind the nthn goals at Woody Oval was "yeh, you beat us when we don't have half a team" and "all the injuries, we'll beat you when we get Pass and treeby and, and, and... Well you had your chance today and you failed, like you failed last time, so suck it in and next time you want to mention my club.. show the respect that is now due! Apologies accepted.

Spelly, you might read this, do you have stats for the amount of games when Chambers has kicked 7, and is that any sort of record?

However, pygmy mentalities apart, I expect this to be very close, and hope to god Burton isn't playing. He seems to be very hungry and focused to get back to the Crows. Watch out anyone who will get in the way of that destiny.

This would include you Eddie Eagle. Bring it on, I can be very humble when it comes to apologies.

it was evident that the sturt players had licence to leave the Eagles boys to have numbers around the ball...

their quick movement also created havoc for our boys......

sturt used the corridor for most of the game and it wan't until the second half when the Eagles used the corridor they played must better......

Martin for Sturt was very good......

our best Salter, Cicca, McKenzie, Broadbent......

Watched this game today on and off (pretty much all the first half). A couple of points:

1. Trengrove wont be in SA next year - gee the kid is as good as any young'un I've seen in the last 10 years.

2. Martin can play and as others have said his play in the 2nd quarter where he attacked the footy was pretty sensational. I'm biased and Sturt supporters can howl me down but I still reckon Tommy Holmes is better, we see that play regualrly from Tommy.

3. Burton wasn't helped by the inside midfielders of the eagles being pretty ineffective all day, wingers cant get the ball if it don't come out - where he was in the first half. When he went forward the pressure the Sturt mid-field applied meant the ball didn't come down very cleanly so once again he was up against it. Having said that what chance Pat Fittock for the Gold Coast in 2010.

4. Sturt look pretty good when no pressure is applied, they are probably the best team in the SANFL when it comes to killing off a team if given half the chance.

First time I'd seen Sturt in action in about 2 years and I was mighty impressed.

I must admit I saw the teams on paper and thought to myself that Sturt had a lot of 'no-name' players (barring Chambers and Sheedy) compared to the Eagles but as we know games aren't won on paper. I was extremely impressed with Bode, Martin, Trengove and Payne.

Anyway what to make of the eagles?

Well we were thoroughly smashed in the first half when Dabrowski went off earlier. Redden came on and took half a game to adjust to the tempo I thought. But in the first half he couldn't get his hand to the ball, and the Sturt ruckman continuously fed their onballers who as a result got the ball continuously out of centre. The other striking thing I thought in the first half was that Sturt were able to read the ball far better than our players in the windy conditions. Too often we were caught behind the player when sturt were kicking into the breeze then when they were assisted by the breeze our guys kept getting caught under it. Too many easy uncontested marks to Sturt.

Also our skills and discipline were terrible. As an example Rimmington pretty much gave away 3 easy goals (one an attempted mark behind Plant in 1st qrt when he should have punched; a kick from defence straight to a sturt player; gave away an undisciplined 25m allowing sturt to goal)

I couldn't name one eagles player in my best players in the first half except for Salter. McKenzie and Broadbent got a couple of ineffective touches but still were far too quiet. After half time Cicollela, Banner Redden, and McKenzie played ok but were more than covered by the sturt guys who kept playing well. As a result we only broke even in the last half.

I was a little surprised that Fuller brought up Smith from the U18s bypassing the reserves and I couldn't work out why. But then I thought he has given more than enough chances to some of the b-grade onballers who continuously let down the team when they get the chance. Maybe he has had enough and is just looking at some other options from the U18s? Smith was not up to standard but is only young so may be worth persisting with. The worst thing we can do is to continue down the well-worn track of recycling cr@p like Fairclough, Daniel, Symons, Cheep, Hicks in the hope that one will show some consistency. They've all had too many chances and should be given the flick at the end of year IMO.

Sad to see Passador's hammy go again in what could be a potential season ending (and even career ending??) injury. NExt week we could expect to get Shirley dropped from Crows, bring in Grocke for Passador, Corbett for Smith, Powell for Cheep.

Martin is a gun. Banner is a long way off him and some of the other Crows around the same age.

Now, I don't get to see them every week, but surely Hier, regardless of form, is a better match-up on Johncock than Jarrad, or on Herring than McGregor.

Agree that Salter and McKenzie were good, Cicca and Broadbent had their moments. Hill is starting to show a little bit for a 19 yo playing CHF.

I didn't understand this either. Even though it was 16 shots to 4, I thought with long and direct footy we could be back in it.
