Norwoods Suspension From Recruiting 2010

Can anyone clarify when Norwood can begin recruiting players?

Is their suspension for one year from the time the SANFL handed down its decision, or is it a blanket ban on recruiting for all of 2010?

I think it's March 1 2010 they can resume mate, but Im not completely certain .. My attitude as a supporter is to play it safe and not expect any recruiting activity (outside of former Norwood boys) until after season 2010.

Could they have blokes train with them before March 1 and then "recruit" them after March 1?

(If so it would be a virtual non penalty, wouldn't it?)

A club may recruit players at any time during the season, not just pre-season. Norwood have been suspended from recruiting players for a period of 12 months.

Yes, they can still talk to prospective recruits and have them train at the club, but they cannot sign them until early March. This means if a player is offered a contract by another club in the interim, Norwood runs the risk of losing them.

Cheers, thanks for the explanation guys. Probably not as bad a penalty as I first thought but they didn't deserve the penalty I first thought.

The hard part I would have thought will be getting someone to move interstate without signing a contract. I get the impression we won't recruit much anyway.

They can only recruit in their own area and not anywhere else is what I thought that they could only do.

They will have to recruit to some extent given their best young talent is mainly at u16 level and their reserves are very thin. Plus if the rumoured player clean out takes place there's a few more places to fill.

They wont be able to afford to do a "clean out" if they are already running with low numbers of quality in the reserves and below.

No, they can sign as many players as they like in that period. What they've been banned from doing is registering them. The regulation says players from outside their zone can't be registered for a calendar year from the date of the SANFL's decision. This is a potential loophole as I'm sure the intention is to prevent the club from registering a player for the upcoming season, something which I trust the SANFL are aware of and attending to.

Because allegedly every team busts the salary cap and for reasons only known to Norwood, they fessed up to the SANFL so got caught :-"

They only 'fessed up' to a small breach, and after the larger initial one was uncovered as I understand it.

Central already have and North's lawyers and accountants are too good. ;)
If a good accountant or lawyer can't hide stuff under the SANFL salary cap then there's no hope in hell of them ever making it in the business world!
