Effective immediately.

Norwood Coach Resigns

Trevor Hill announced today that he will resign as senior coach of the Norwood Football Club, effective immediately.

On field, season 2009 has been bitterly disappointing for the Redlegs following the progress made in 2008 where they defeated Port Adelaide in the elimination final.

Mr Hill said, “It has been a great privilege to coach the Norwood Football Club. Clearly our performances thus far this season have been disappointing for all concerned. Given that this was going to be my last year anyway, I think it is better that I leave now so the club can get on with its future plans.”

“Following the loss to Central District on the weekend, and subsequent discussions with the Board, it was mutually agreed the Norwood Football Club needed a sense of “newness” and change in order to salvage something from a very disappointing 2009 football season.”

“As Senior Coach, I felt it would be in the best interests of all concerned to step down from my position immediately and allow the Norwood Football Club to move forward in a new direction.”

“I have felt honoured and proud to have coached the Norwood Football Club over the last four years and would like to thank everyone for their support over this time; your passion for the Norwood Football Club deserves to be rewarded.”

Norwood Football Director, Keith Thomas said, “Trevor has served Norwood with great commitment, but the simple truth is that our performances this year have not been good enough. We have already begun the process of re-establishing several key principles that have served this club well historically and will underpin our success going forward. The search for a new coach for 2010 begins today.”

Assistant coach and former Norwood player, Jarred Cotton, has been appointed as caretaker coach for the remainder of season 2009.

Trevor Hill resigns ... just a politically correct way of saying he has been sacked methinks.

OK, Legs supporters, you got what you wanted ... now what?

Would Jarred Cotton be someone who is in the mix to be appointed next year or is he purely 'caretaker'?
Didn't even realise Jarred was an assistant at Norwood.
Who else would be around the mark to coach in season '10'?

Just showed this story on Channel 10 News...

I could be wrong, but I Jarrod coached the Under 17's at Norwood a couple of seasons ago but also had a year away from the club in recent seasons, playing Div 1 with Tea Tree Gully in the SAAFL.

Good luck to yet another former Centrals (and Port Power, Norwood and South) player with your league coaching aspirations...

I thought that Brodie Atkinson might have been appointed 'caretaker coach' considering he has been in a similar situation in the past...

Nathan may have got the gig this year but he's unavailable at present. Great chance for Cotton to show his mettle.

Well the longer Hill stayed at the helm, the longer it was before we began a process of of trying to resurrect the club onfield ... The sooner the process starts, the sooner it finishes.

Whilst I've never been a fan of his style or method as a coach, Trevor certainly wouldn't have set out to oversee an unsuccessful period so I appreciate his effort, but I'd be lying if I didn't say I'd lined a few froffies up!!

Yep he gets to come in and work with a decent list really. If he is any good he will be able to get the Norwood side to be much more competitive and win a few games.

Jarrod was an assistant U17 coach a few years back and been an assistant coach mainly looking after the forward line the last couple of years. I suspect he won't be what the club will be looking for long term but best of luck to him in the last seven games.
