I wonder if the hoodoo was broken due to the Woodville names used on scoreboard during the U18s game.

As is often the case, the 3rd quarter was the difference in this game.

Eagles started the game kicking with the 3+ goal wind. Cicolella was creative up forward and Grima was providing a target for the bays. The Eagles kicked a couple late in the quarter thanks to a period of dominance in the midfield to hold a 2 goal margin at quarter time.

The bays came out in the 2nd quarter looking to blow the game open, but the Eagles were able to hold them at bay. Glenelg were beginning to be first to the ball, but the Eagles were close by laying tackle after tackle to keep within 7 points at half time.

The Eagles would have been looking to make the most of the breeze in the 3rd quarter, but it was Glenelg who rose to the occasion when it counted and with hard running and a ferocious attack on the ball, they were able to blow the game open to lead by 32 points at the final break. The Eagles did not give up in the last and came within 22 points, but it was too much to ask and Glenelg ran out winners by 34 points.

I thought best players for the Eagles were Paul Stewart and Ken McGregor in defence. The margin could have been a lot greater if not for these two. Hier also tried hard and even had a stint in the ruck in the last quarter. Salter made the most of every opportunity to kick 5 or 6 goals in the end. The Eagles forward line is far more potent with him at the goal front. I though Westbrook tried hard all day and presented well at half forward. At certain stages of the game our midfielders played well, but overall they couldn't match the intensity of Glenelg's on ball brigade.

Very workman like in the first half just holding our own and edging forward. The thrid quarter. OUTSTANDING. Into a 4 goal breeze just absolutely smashed those hybrids, by working harder, and making sure we got numbers to EVERY contest.

The last quarter we held the challenge out and went on with a good 30 odd point win !!

Well done Tigers and glad to see those Hybrids off.

P.S We won, we won well, but FFS the umpiring is just diabolical.....

Glenelg won mainly by being first to the ball....

when they felt the Eagles tackle..... their legs buckled......and got the head high free all day.....

I counted 30 frees against the Eagles.......poor umpiring?......I would say most were there..... but it was not consistant for both teams!

with injuries hiiting us hard I thought the boys at least tried and gave a bit in the last quarter only to be overrun in the end......

better players......Salter, McGregor,Stewart, McKenzie

FFS, the umpiring, whilst a little puzzling at times, had absolutely no bearing on the result ... it's not unusual to get more frees when you're hitting the ball harder and at the bottom of the pack trying to get it out.

The Eagles were far too good in round 3, no excuses.

The Bays played very good footy into the wind in the 3rd today to seal the game and the better team on the day got the result.

The Eagles are still a very good and dangerous team and continue to demand respect.

Eagles played as they typically do; hard at the man and numbers at the stoppages. The result was well worth watching. Some of the frenetic play in the first term as each team struggled to maintain possession while the other tried to force the turnover was great.

In the second and thrid terms Glenelg's class shone through. Especially in the third, kicking what, 6 goals into the teeth. The game was not exactly over at 3/4 time but the Bays had it by the throat.

The Eagles, much to their credit, did not lay down and take it in the final term. If anything their intensity increased and they took it right up to the Bays. Conversely Glenelg's intensity dropped right off. Much time up forward was wasted on lackadaisical half-arsed hungry efforts. It was a little painful to watch after the commandeering performance in the third term. So despite the solid win, I'm left a little disappointed with the final result. Had they kept their minds on the task they could have buried the Eagles. Room for improvement Bays.

I have bitched about the umpires elsewhere. On This August Forum I'll simply say that it was the worst exhibition of umpiring I've seen all year.

Good effort by the undermanned EG team despite the scoreboard
GL just had a brilliant 3rd term into the wind that won them the game
Apart from that it was a willing intense battle between 2 committed and talented teams
My best were the 2 full forwards
SALTER 6 goals , first up from a long spell was very good, but dunno about the hairdo
GRIMA 5 goals took telling marks and kicked goals when the game was in the balance in the first half

STYLE OF FOOTBALL
Good old fashioned man to man footy
None of that flooding, zoning, numbers behind the ball that is not for good spectating
This was a very enjoyable game to watch today [as was the first game earlier this year]
