Sounded like a good effort by South, came back a couple of times but Centrals are just too strong.

These are the hardest losses to take... when your team does well and really challenges but falls short... you just feel way more gutted than you otherwise would if they got flogged.

Fairly happy after today. Central first half was very good, whereas the second half i thought we were a tad complacent and South had the intensity and effort to take advantage of it. Have to be honest at no point did i think we would lose the game though.

Some good points from the Dogs was the effort of some of the 'lesser likes' such as Dutschke, Spurr, Henderson and O'Hara all had very good games. The forward line set up looks great with Henderson up there especially when the ball is being moved quickly. Lawry also played very well on the last line of defence, he may have found his knack similar to Yves Sibenaler.

The negatives would be that Callinan looks to have done his hammy again, hopefully it's only a niggle but he was visually limping at the 3/4 time break. Also some of the older brigade looked like they had been run of their legs at the 3/4 time, i think Lairdy may have started to step up the training.

On South they put up a gallant effort which the supporters will love, but never really threatend. I will say they have definately made some improvement on Noarlunga Oval. The clubrooms are sensational, the facilities inside the ground are more than adeqaute and i have to admit the cars around the ground added to the atmosphere of what could have been a lackluster afternoon.

I have noticed no one from South bagging Sa,pson much recently. Obviously South showing improvement which is keeping them quiet. I actually think South are finally on the right road.

Uninspiring game dogs did just enough to win, thought Williams and O'hara had good games looking forward to getting some of the boys back from injury though. Its all about getting the team ready for September.
Also thought Henderson is showing potential.

The first quarter today was fantastic. Kicking into the cyclone, we had kicked 3.1 before the Panthers had gone inside their 50. We were playing some of our best football in many weeks, and had a somewhat surprising 10 point lead at quarter time.

The second quarter our defense did it's job in keeping the Panthers to 0.1 for the quarter. However, we failed to take full advantage of the cyclone, only kicking 3 with it (as opposed to 4 against it).

The third quarter started with a brilliant goal, but then we stopped. The Panthers kicked the next 5 goals, whilst we hit the post on 3-4 consecutive occasions.

The last quarter we pretty much did what we had to do to win.

So at the end of the day we won. That's it.

Interesting day.

Centrals won the game in the first fifteen minutes

I have watched centrals twice this year and both times they have been hassled to the extent that there skills have fallen apart

I agree centrals were never in danger of losing

As for Williams if I was the opposition I would let him get the ball because his ability to burn it today and in the state game was huge.

Spurr surprised me with how good he is.

Mckernan is goig to make it.
Cook is not, he went to the Williams school of kicking
Westoff a fair chance to make it
Farmer will not make it unless he lifts his workrate
Henderson ? - hint do not smother a kick with your nose, boy that would have hurt

The South Adelaide Football Club really should be congratulated on their efforts over the last couple years, Noarlunga Oval was once a place i dreaded going to, but now i would have to say i actually look forward to heading down there for the footy.
The atmosphere used to be non-existent but its now actually quite good, with people having the option of siting in their cars instead of out in the cold, the crowds must be steadily going up, obviously a few on field results would also help this.
The Jimmy Deanes Clubroom area is just fantastic, the place is just unrecognisable since i last went in there a couple years ago, I would have to say with the exception of Grand Central, South Adelaide's clubrooms are the best going around, the Honour boards, and pictures up and around the staircase was fantastic, a good way to spend half time.
The people running the show down there obviously know what they are doing, a big well done.

I think he was referring to the renovated club and function area, which i agree is terrific.

In regards to off field matters, they seem to have some good idea's that are sending the club in the right direction.

Started in the forward line, spent a bit of time on the ball and had his fair share of rotation on the bench as well.

Here were his stats for the day:

MITCH FARMER:

Kicks - 7
H/Balls - 2
Marks - 2
Tackles - 2
Clearances - 2
Inside 50's - 3
Scores - 1 goal, 1 behind

Spoke to Clay Sampson after the game about Mitch and he said it will take a while for him to get to know his new team mates but was happy with a couple of things he did today and expects him to get better as the weeks go by.
