Update on Doggies fan who had heart attack

Postby Big Phil » Fri Jun 26, 2009 12:58 pm

I know a few posters were showing legit concern about the loyal Dogs supporter who sadly suffered a heart attack last week at the Central v North game out at Elizabeth.

I thought that those people may be interested in an update and will no doubt be pleased to hear the following:

The gentlemans name is Stewart Banks and as mentioned, is a long time Doggies fan. His daughter Mandy actually came on the Centrals forum and posted an update on Stewies' health and of course thanks on behalf of herself and the family.

Mandy Tabe on CDFC.info wrote:Hi everyone, I am Stewy Banks' daughter Mandy, and on behalf of my mum, Barbara, and my sisters, Sue Banks and Cathie Mudge, would like to say thanks to you all for your thoughts and good wishes for dad. He is on the road to recovery. He did have a cardiac arrest. We believe his heart stopped a couple of times at the ground, and thanks to the quick thinking and well trained club people around him at the time, he is making a slow, but good recovery. Mum and Dad actually sat in a different spot (not by far) to where they normally sit and were right behind the doggies box which was the best place to be on the day.

A big thanks to our Centrals club doctor, Dr Douglas, and club trainer, Tracey Tallboy - and the Nth Adel trainer, Donna Dickson and the North Adel club doctor. Stewy is scheduled to have on op tomorrow, and all being well he should be home on Saturday arvo. My mum however would like to advise, that he will definitely be ‘out’ for at least the next 2 weeks, and if she gets her way, 3! Thanks also to Richie Cochrane for paying him a visit a couple of times, which really made his day much better. Richie is his fave player. He did of course then quiz Richie on who got best players and the coaches’ award! But, all in all it’s looking good at the moment. So again, thanks to everyone for their wishes, and I hope you see out there again real soon! Go UU Dogs!!

I hope to make it to the South match on the weekend all being well. Cheers, Mandy

Great news direct from the family and hopefully we see Stewie back at Doggies games as soon as he is better, and his wife gives him the all clear !! Great to hear Richard Cochrane Jnr had been to visit him, shows how much of a true gentleman Richie is. Glad to hear Stewie os on the road to recovery, excellent news.

Thats great to hear, it definately put the game into perspective.

Was also brilliant to see the support by St.Johns and supporters and staff from BOTH clubs. Every single person in the ground was wishing for a safe and healthy recovery.

good to also hear that both club doctors worked well together no matter who the supporter barracked for. Mandy if your mum gets her way, your dad might be out until the finals. See you at the footy.
