Eagle News #6

Postby cd » Wed Jun 24, 2009 1:57 pm

A few folk have asked when I’m putting up my next Eagles News.

Given that the club has made a commitment to members to ensure they are first with the news we have ramped up our direct email service to members this year. Chris our CEO and Mark our marketing manager have done a fantastic job in keeping members up to date with events and happenings around the club.

This week as well as publishing the injury list Chris sent an email with extra information specifically regarding Leigh Treeby’s injury plus he included comments from Leigh to the members.

Each week there are 2 or 3 new news items on the club website as well as the usual reports about the game, the coach’s comments, team lists and photos from our games.

Also there are the changing Eagles TV interviews and of course Duane Schultz’s ‘In the Nest’ behind the scenes updates – well worth a read each week.

Further the club newsletter which went out last week has also gone from 8 to12 pages and we have improved the quality of the presentation.

So for all Eagle fans the news and views of the club are there for you on our website and so not to miss out you really need to check it out at least a couple of times a week (minimum).

I would be on here every day with an Eagles News if I tried to keep up with all the news going out to folk BUT I will be here with a news and bits and pieces every so often.

Membership numbers are going well (now over 2000) – almost at last years level already but if you have forgotten to get on board please call the club or join via the club website.

A Fantastic Breakfast is coming up on Wednesday 8th July starting at 7am in the upstairs function room - Ben Hook compere with Derrick McManus as guest speaker – all details on website and bookings essential - Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be shot? Well, Derrick McManus was shot 14 times and lived to tell the tale. Come along to the Eagles breakfast and hear his amazing story.

Major Event is our Sportsman’s Night (Mixed audience) - July 25th with Guests Damien Fleming, Wayne Phillips and Warwick Capper – All Welcome – contact the club for bookings – only $80 including food and drinks.

Also coming up is the next Ladies day at the footy with free champers for all ladies in attendance – watch for details and this week the Centro Arndale kick for goal is worth $200

A win over the Bays this Sunday sees us move to third spot – get along to Woodville to support the boys – see you at the footy. (Under 18s play Sat @ the bay)

CD, as a member of the Woodville West Torrens Football club I must say I am very impressed with what the club offers for their memberships.

I appreciate the regular member updates, team selections and any promotions going on. Great work to all involved, well done.

Just out of curiosity, is there any truth to the rumour that we received on the '5RPH Outside 50 Show' this mornng that Mark Passador has once again jagged the hamstring at training and will be absent from selection once again after just starting to push for a spot in the league side ?

Col, we had a listener call in off air this morning when we were doing the 'Outside 50 SANFL Show' on 5RPH...

She said she was an "elderly Eagles fan who had heard Mr Passador had done the hammy at training again" !!??

Johhny Nanks was sure to state on air that it was purely just a rumour and for Eagles fans not to take it as gospel. He was actually hoping to speak to Pass on the 5RPH League Teams Show tomorrow night and would confirm it then, straight from the horses mouth. (Sorry Pass, not calling you a horse ;) )

I know what "unsubtantiated rumors" can be like. I had a listener ring off air after last weeks show and told me that Ian Callinan had done the hammy pretty badly again and would be out of action for a while. Well that hammy was fine and couldn't have been more evident with "Nutta" getting BOG for the Dogs against North last weekend.

The week leading up to the Eagles v Central clash at Woodville, PhilH (an Eagles fan) asked me (a Doggies man of course) on the Wednesday morning Outside 50 SANFL Show whether or not I wanted to have a little bet on the game. I accepted and advised we would then agree on the "prize" prior to the start of the game.

After suggestions of cash, alcohol and even the 'loser' singing the winning sides club song on air (we want to get listeners to tune in so ruled this out pretty quickly as either of us can sing !!) we decided that the best option would be that the 'loser' of the little wager would have to join as a member of the winning club.

With the Dogs great start to the year leading up to that game (7 wins, 0 losses) and the Eagles somewhat patchy form, I happily accepted with even PhilH conceding it was a very good chance he would become a member of the almighty Central Districts Football Club. I even had so much confidence in the outcome that I emailed PhilH the link to the membership page of Central's web site.

Well how wrong was I !!?? The Eagles played well, the Dogs average and then 2 days later, proving to be a man of my words, I headed down to Oval Avene and handed over my hard earnt $45 to Mark Passador (Membership / Marketing Manager) who was more than happy to take my money !! So yes, now I am a member of both Centrals and the Eagles. It was mentioned on here I think that if sign up with the Double Blues now, I can "claim" EVERY premiership won in the SANFL in this decade to date !!

What a major upgrade in member news form my great SANFL club.Mind you there was nothing wrong with what CD was doing .Its now we get bucket loads more , from more eagles staffers than just CD .We get emails from Mark Passador,Mark Mackenzie ,Nadia (shes very nice in person)and of course the new CEO(I have said about 1 word to chris must introduce myself soon ).And apologies to any one I left off .
And every email is individually marked with the members name a very nice personal touch along with Fortress Woodville love that saying !!
The centro goal kicking is a hit well done club.

But can we do more with the improved ground sound system sorry but I may have grey hair but 1930's marching music is a bit off .Sorry guys I know I'm known to complain but after the Panthers last week we can do so much more .They may have lost the game but they won the ground announcements for all us in the outer and Grand stand with stats goal kickers and no 1930's music.

Cheers

Also a reminder to those attending the bar next to the Percy Fox stand on the western wing is now open for home games. (a thank you to those who raised this issue earlier in the year including some Sturt fans on this site)

As I mentioned with all the info coming from the club i'd need to be here everyday - but in case you are interested members have received their emails including the team squads along with a very interesting report from Ron Fuller (also now up on the club website).

Also new on the website is Duane's latest behind the scenes report - well worth a read as is the match report re last week's game by Peter Argent. MickyJ won Duane's quiz too!

Also you'll find details of the boys donating bloood the other day and news of the holiday coaching clinics!

You cant afford to miss checking the club website regularly!!

4 emails this week to members and this is a members only service - join now so not to miss out plus at least 3 new articles on the website plus photos in the gallery from the game!

C'mon guys, we're going to spend some dough at your club on Sunday, the least you could have done is gone to the Bay Bistro instead of Jetty Rd ;)

The Eagles member emails are fantastic and great to keep you up to date. I have been an Eagles member for about 7 yerars now but don't get to many games due to soccer, family and Crows commitments. The news on Treeby although bad was refreshingly honest and is a good example of excellent communication between a club and its Members. Keep up the good work Eagles.
