Zac Millar

Postby Big Phil » Thu Jun 18, 2009 1:18 am

Interesting "whispers" going around that North Adelaide player Zac Millar may be pulling the pin on the SANFL and heading out to Div2 SAAFL club Eastern Park, where his father Dusty is the A Grade coach this year after switching over from Div 6 side Brahma Lodge.

I noticed Zac was ommitted from the Roosters side last week and didn't play in North's 85 point belting of the Double Blues. Not sure if Zac played in the reserves and whether or not he has actually left the club. I heard the whsipers from a couple of former Eastern Park team mates of mine and there is a bit of talk on the Div 2 thread on this forum.

I'm sure a few North fans on here can confirm this but interesting to find out whether it is true or not ???

Zac played ressies last week.

It is no secret around Prospect that Zac is not the hardest worker on the track nor the most motivated. He has also had his "off field" issues too over the past 2 seasons but by all accounts he did a very solid pre-season and has played every game in the Seniors up until last week this year. He has tonnes of natural ability but if his attitude isn't spot on then he unfortunately is wasting his talent.

I would be disappointed if he left Prospect (especially half way thru a season) but not suprised given his history.

I heard he was playing for Eastern Park at the start of the year so would suggest the rumour has been around for a while. If getting dropped to the ressies makes you wanna play div2 then good ridence

Well that was wrong - maybe you "heard" he may contemplate playing there but even that would not explain how he did a full pre-season with us - why would you bother if you wanted to have a kick in the Ammos???

On the NAFC website - Zac has chosen to leave North and play out the season for Eastern Park. Statement says he remains a contracted listed North player for 2009. It also mentions how much North have done for Zac. Disappointing but not surprising! Don't think we wil ever see Zac wearing the Roosters colours again this year or in future years.

From the NAFC website:

Zac Millar Unavailable

Members are advised that Zac Millar has made himself unavailable for this week ends match against Centrals. Zac has indicated that he does not want to continue playing at North Adelaide Football Club. It is disappointing for the Club to be informed that his registration has been lodged with Eastern Park Football Club in Division 2 of the SAAFL.

The Club would like to advise our members that everything possible in terms of our resources has been provided in terms of assisting Zac to become a successful SANFL footballer. This has been evident in his selection for the first 8 matches of the season, only playing a reserves match for the first time this year against Sturt last Saturday.

Zac remains a listed, contracted player for season 2009 at our Club.

I think you'll find Eastern Pk under his father are around the mark this year in Div2, to top them off & give them a real chance ( Eastern Pk ) of taking it out in 09 Zac would be a very handy addition to the club & give them an even bigger advantage. Its a pity the club ( Eastern Pk ) don't look at the long term future of a lad that has age on his side & tonnes of ability & see's his future lies in the SANFL & possibly the AFL. Hows the Amateur League or Eastern Pk for that matter gonna help this kid make a name for himself at the highest level?
This bloke may miss that opportunity because of some selfish individuals persuading him to to play Div2 Amateurs to win a Div2 flag.
I know what i would do & thats stick with the Roosters & aim for a LEAGUE FLAG.

I agree clubs should look after their junior players and encourage them to play at the highest level possible.

BUT

Zac Millar is not a junior, he is a grown man an adult infact and should have the brain power to work out whats best in his life for him.

Eastern Park are totally in their rights to sign a disgruntled SANFL player. In fact if you were a supporter or member of the EPFC and the oppurtunity arose to sign a semi-regular league SANFL player and the commitee turned this player away soley on moral grounds of what (may) be best for his career surely you would be angry.

Remember even Amauter football clubs are there to win premierships and move up the grades.

Im sure if Brayden O'Hara (just throwing a name in the air) wanted to come out and play for the football club your involved in you would welcome him with open arms.

Im tending to think your trying to make the EPFC sound like the bad guys because your worried about your own clubs situation in the same division.

Ok I will now weigh in on this debate. No Mercy, very very ordinary comment from someone who would have no idea what the young man or the club is thinking. Simply put Zak is not enjoying his football at North Adelaide and hasn't for some time. His parents are two of the most supportive parents you will find and moved to Adelaide to support Zak in his footy career with North Adelaide. In no way have they or the footy club persuaded Zak to leave North and probably intially discouraged it, until they realised how unhappy he was.

SANFL and AFL footy these days could not be the most enjoyable style of footy to play. Its been overcomplicated by a percieved need to have continual rotations off the bench regardless of how a player is performing at the time. Players being brought off straight after they kick a goal is the perfect example seen so often on the tv.

It would be my suggestion that if you don't know the full circumstances surrounding Zak's decision then your not qualified to comment. If North had half a brain they would let him go and stay in touch in the hope that Zak may get a hunger to play League footy again next year. He is a quality kid and well liked by his teamates which is often a fantastic guide to a players worth to a club. Its a shame that people label a kid for having "off field troubles" but in the same breath talk about him having put in a fantastic preseason and very solid first eight games. People just can't forgive a 18/19 year old for some mistakes...gee I hope you were all well adjusted young men at that age!!

End rant.

North have kept him contracted for this year and I know that if he changes his mind come seasons end he will be more than welcome back. North have done alot with both Zac and his family and in reality he has had more "kid glove" treatment than a lot of others players cut loose by not only North but other clubs.

Re your comments about "off field" troubles - is that not correct as is the fact he had a great pre-season and was selected on that basis in the League side.

Two way street - it also about the players giving back too and toughening it out from time to time!

Zac Millar is a thug and North Adelaide are better off for not having him there to no doubt cause them more off field problems in the future. Eastern Park will be well suited to Zac

You say he's not enjoying his footy yet he's played every League game except one!
If he wasn't enjoying it he wouldn't be playing League, maybe it was when he got dropped & got the sh!ts on that he decided with other influences in his ear its time to play Amateurs.
The SANFL are no-where near close to the AFL in relation to interchange rotations, so i wouldn't be using that as an excuse to change Leagues.

That is close to your dumbest post yet No Mercy. He wouldn't be playing league footy if he wasn't enjoying it? Where the hell is the logic in that? Plain silly. I myself have spoken to him in depth several times this season about the fact he's not enjoying his footy. All of these conversations took place PRIOR to him playing in the two's. Reality is your having a stab in the dark about his reasons and just feel like slagging him off. Again, very ordinary.
