What are the rules relating to AFL listed players in week off due to split round. Are players like Shirley & Petrenko who were listed as emergencies on the weekend but played due to late withdrawls able to play SANFL this weekend.

the same rules as for a normal round over one week ... can't play for both in the same round

Then explain how Ivan Maric did it a couple of years ago. Played for the Magpies on the Saturday, then fronted for the Crows at footy park on the sunday?

Think it is up to the AFL club if they are to release them or not.

Sorry, should have clarified ... can't play AFL then SANFL in the same round.

Can happen the other way around, as it did last weekend when Shirley played in the SANFL on Sat (admittedly only about a quarter for the Panther's reserves), but lined up for the Crows on Sun.

If that is the case then can someone please explain this?

In round 12, 2006, Elijah Ware played for Port Power (17/6/06). It was his AFL debut.
The following weekend Port had the week off (split round) yet he still played for Centrals against Glenelg then (24/6/06)
He then played for Port Power again the following week (R13, 1/7/06)

Ultimately it comes down to whatever the AFL clubs want - they are allowed to break any "rules"...

I would guess that the Power would have sought permission from the AFL for that to have happened mate

Ultimately it comes down to the fact that the AFL club owns the player, and pays his salary, and dictates where their player can and can't play - abiding by the exemption procsseses in place between the SANFL and AFL.

IMHO that's why the most successful club since there have been two SANFL teams in the AFL has been that club with the fewest AFL players in the team; particularly dropping to and fro the AFL to the SANFL.

Petrenko and Shirley were both listed as emergencies last weekend, but ended up playing for the Crows after late withdrawals. Both may well end up not playing next round for the Crows.

I reckon the Crows will push for Shirley to have a run with the Eagles this weekend given he has had lots of time off. I reckon Petrenko will be given the weekend off as he has played just about every round.

Imagine how nervous AFL footy administrators would be at this time, knowing their players have a week off and are out there, somewhere.
