New Stadium? Does that mean rationalising SANFL admin?

Postby csbowes » Wed Jun 10, 2009 4:42 pm

This is something else I've been chit-chatting to people about. If the state government and SANFL get into bed about building a centralised stadium for the AFL, SANFL and all matter of sports, are there real tangible benefits in co-locating SANFL team admin in that one sports centre?

For example, every team does its admin, newsletters, membership, merchandise and so on from the new stadium?

Clubs now just run their grounds and attached bars for training and game day and use clubrooms for functions, but don't need the office staff.

Is that really practical?

As a Sturt man, we'd be better off with that idea, but I'm sure for some other clubs, it may well be a backward step.

How say my brethren?

I don't think the stadium's going to happen so it's a moot point to that extent, but it would be kind of awkward bringing your potential recruit in for a chat past the other 8 clubs' offices I'd have thought. Convenient for him though to shop himself around all under the one roof.

Would the SA government look at a new centralised stadium now the AO redevelopment is in full swing? Adelaide just doesn't have the population to support two central stadiums.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

They weren't looking at it anyway - the Libs and the Advertiser were. Won't happen, ever.

The issue with Football Park is the transport to the venue, drive down North Terrace and you will be held up by the current roadworks concerning the Tram Extension. The extension is to Hindmarsh, the second stage is to West Lakes then the third stage takes it on to Semaphore and Port Adelaide through the Newport Quays. With Football Park being connected by Light Rail to the city it gives them the ability to be able to move much higher numbers of people much quicker and I do feel it will resolve a number of the current issues as a result.

Speaking for the doggies there are certain benefits in having our management sited where the licensed club is. Not the least is the efficiencies involved in enabling our GM to have a beer and place a bet at close proximity to his place of work. :)
