Barzaar?

Does anyone know how the Sturt FC are going in relation to improving the takings at their Barzaar club?

Good question, and the answer is a tightly guarded secret I reckon.
It actually made a modest profit last year, but being a highly geared venue it got mauled by high interest rates on borrowings which are really strangling it's ability to return a decent amount to the football club. Interest rates are lower now so that should help.
I don't know enough about it but i suspect the management there hasn't been top notch from bits i have heard. Maybe that has changed, i know there is a new director from the industry on the football club board looking after the venues including Barzaar.
Has to become more consistent with it's takings but i reckon it will struggle for a while yet.
Unley Road was never the optimum location much as it is a busy shopping precinct.
In a financial sense it has to pick up now or in the very near future otherwise solvency will become an issue.

The club now holds VP luncheons there before every home game and as far as i've seen they've all been sold out.
Some of us have made a concious effort to go there whenever possible to get a bit more coin going through the place but i dare say there is alot more tthat can be done.
I'll ask a few questions tonight to see if i can get a better idea on any improvment.

I went there late last year with someone, intending to eat a meal, and the crappy, dirty, torn PHOTOCOPIED piece of paper pretending to be a menu, containing a weird and unapetising selection of "food", fairly managed to put me off, and I won't be back. Honestly, I don't think they could have done a better job of appearing unappealing if they tried (maybe they were trying?)

Doesn't sound good, although regardless of how they dress it up, all club establishments are designed purely for the machines (although at least a laminated Bistro menu's probably not a huge ask) ... If you're looking for 3star+ cuisine and service I'd suggest a restaurant

Last time I went there they didnt have a decent beer on tap so I went across the road to the Holdy where there was a choice of many great beers even stuff out of a micro brewery.
Im honestly amazed as to why anyone would go to the Bay Oval when the Holdy is so close except for wanting to put some money back into a SANFL club or blind loyalty.

Speaking of, did anyone ending up going to the Bay Disco a couple of Saturdays ago?

This is the problem when the pokies came in. I wouldn't begrudge the average punter for choosing the Cremorne over Barzaar (or the SFC Clubrooms prior to that) in the slightest.

Haven't been to the Holdy in years, used to drink there before the poker machines came in.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Holdfast Hotel Proud Sponsors of Byron Murphy, good to see you're supporting our club sponsors Wedgie.

Had a good feed there New Years Eve, almost as good as the Bay Bar and Bistro.

Why? You seemed very concerned about this venue Sojourner??? The menu and direction of this venue has changed and seems to be looking up.

Like the Voice myself and my parents and there friends go to Barzaar regularly and enjoy the menu which you called Weird (maybe to cultured for you Sploosh ;) ) is great and never had a bad meal there. as for the menu they are designed and you probably just got a bad one.... sorry the menu you are used to Sploosh isn’t fluorescent and a greasy teenager asking if you want to upsize

My mail is somewhat different, How sure are you that things are looking up and are better than at the same time last year? It needs to be borne in mind that Barzaar needs to make significant improvements in its takings, simply being same or marginally better will not arrest the losses that the venue is currently bleeding, I havent seen any evidence to suggest that any great turnaround has been achieved, but will happily be corrected if that is not right.

Also in relation to moving, its much better to move when its in a position of strength as opposed to a position of weakness. If moving it to Mt Barker will increase the revenue stream into the club then perhaps its time to look at it now prior to Daylight Saving begining this year as opposed to doing nothing and adding a further loss to the club sheet at the next AGM?

How about a mobile pokie venue that parks up outside random centrelink offices.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

You just cant up and move pokie machines . They were moved from the Community centre to Barzaar which means you can only move machines within a certain kilometre range. Obviously I have no " evidence " to prove an improvement but do you have any that says the opposite. The venue is not currently bleeding as you put it. I am led to believe it made a profit last year but am not certain but some Sturt supporters may help here.

Daylight savings has what to do with things ?

You often post comments about this venue and the SFC and often try to paint a grim picture for both , any reason why ?

I can tell you that the football club is working on things to improve their profitability and that should reflect at the end of the year .
