With Westies recent win over the Eagles its probably not an unrealistic suggestion to say that the club appears to be taking the next step up the SANFL ladder. Yet despite that fact it is still very early stages of the season so far.

Still I do wonder what SANFL fans think of Westies at this stage?

Have they really turned the corner towards divesting themselves of the Wooden Spoon and climbing up the ladder? Are they a chance to make the finals this season? Will they beat Port at Alberton in Rd 9?

depends ...

If its the Westies of the 1st quarter at the Bay, then they'll be doomed to spoondom for ages ... no commitment, arguing amongst themselves (refer Cupido), etc.

If its the Westies of the 2nd quarter at the Bay (& twice against the Eagles), then they have every chance to make the 5 this year and have an impact on the competition ... committed, taking chances, backing each other up, etc.

I'd hope that we see the latter version ... best for the them and the competition.

Havent seen them play this season as yet but from a few mates that have say there is significant improvement, lets hope there is, would luv to see them take it up to 7 of the other sides apart from North of course

Agree, the only team in the bottom 4 who appear to be going in the right direction.

However, the lofty heigths of 6th may result in the air being too thin and they return to the depths once more.*

That wouldnt take much though Wedgie....I was so frustrated with them last year....and the year before...and the year before

I believe we are on the improve but at this time are very inconsistent -- the last couple of weeks have seen a reduction in the amount of errors.

The club has been upfront in openly stating that we are in the second year of a three year plan and that's where I see us.

Stoked! It's great to see a club that's struggled for a long time start making significant progress. I was having the same discussion with a Melbourne supporter mate of mine. Westies, like Melbourne are doing the right thing sticking with a coach and believing in themselves.

To answer your questions - yeh I reckon they can. And yes, let's hope.

What is Andy Collins situation? If Westies are on the improve that is great, when is Andy Collins contracted to, I would think if things were on the up Westies would want to keep him around for a while

Andy is contracted to the end of next year

I was chatting to a Westies official on Saturday night and he's very happy with the way things are going.
He thinks the club is heading in the right direction, on and off field, with this new era.
Of course he would say that, but there was an extra glint in his eye on Saturday night than when I'd spoken to him in the past.

Also, having watched Westies a couple of weeks ago I can say they did capitulate in the second half. However, the first half showed some really positive signs with a strong system of play. A few more big men around the place might help the club.
