An opportunity missed for the Eagles

Postby Sojourner » Tue Apr 07, 2009 2:21 pm

Being Easter Weekend, what would the crowd be likely to be for an Eagles vs Glenelg match in the Eagles Country Zone at Moonta? I would suggest probably three times or more than the usual crowd at Woodville for this game.

I realise that South are playing Norwood at Encounter Bay, yet I do think that its a good idea for SANFL clubs to look at the idea of taking the game to their members and potential new members in their country zone. Easter weekend would be a massive opportunity to do something in Moonta where the local population swells to record numbers over Easter. A good reason for supporters to get away for a holiday as well!

We're in hell right now gentlemen. Believe me. And we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell... one inch at a time.

Very narrow minded. Put the club ahead of yourself and the benefits for your club will be obvious. More exposure = more memberships = more financial club = success on the field!

The Eagles have played South in a SAFC home match at a country venue, yet when was the last time that the Eagels were the host and played one of their home matches in their country zone to promote the SANFL?

Do you really think the crowd would be 3 times as much as at Woodville (i.e. about 7000-9000). :?

The Encounter Bay crowds at Easter in recent years have been very comparable to what the crowd would have been at Noarlunga, and there wouldn't be that many more holidaymakers around Moonta than at Victor Harbor. Plus you would lose more of the regulars who live in the city, as Moonta is further to travel.

Easilly Ecky, Because its new and hasnt been done before the crowds would be high, The Encounter Bay trip has been ongoing for a few years and the novelty for some has worn off, I would like to see South actually move it around a little more rather than the same venue each time to try and make it more popular. I feel that a match at Moonta initially would do very well, especially if the SANFL marketed it on the local TV and media properly.

Its not a bad idea, I know a lot of Eagles supporters in the country who would go but wouldn't come down to Woodville.
A lot of them have lost interest in the Eagles and a show of good faith by their club might just bring them around.
Not a bad option for all those clubs with tourist destinations in their country zone.
Don't think it would be very good for North with places like Pirie or Augusta. :?
I quite often go to South games at Encounter Bay, great spot, but wont this year as its a Saturday, its a pity they didn't put this game on the Sunday even though Im normally against Sunday games, country games can be the exception especially on a long weekend.

I remember when the Eagles had a game at Clare and it was Brett Burton's debut for them, probably the only time an Eagle crowd has outnumbered a North crowd.

But who knows, the Eagles may have asked for a home game in the country and the SANFL might have given them the opposite, its a common occurance.

Leave it at Woodville, but play it on Good Friday! That will get more of a crowd!

absolutely leave it at home......

this is a must win by the Eagles....

expect changes to the side and strong attack on the ball and opposition player......

this should be a ripper of a game......
