Sturt v Power trial game

Postby 71/72 » Sat Feb 14, 2009 4:40 pm

Sturt opened up well kicking 1.1 before Port scored.
Fists thrown also early in the first qtr.
Sounds like the young Sturt team having a real crack.
Qtr time P.A. 3.2 20 Sturt 3.1 19

It should read:

P.P 13.12 90
Sturt U23s 3.3 21
"And look at John Halbert"
" His whiskers have curled."

Not often you play an AFL team in a trial, surely Sturt should have fielded the best team they could have.

For some reason Sturt did that last time with the younger players.

Happy to 'only' have lost by 75 against an AFL side.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Channel 9 news covered this match. Or more accurately, they spoke with Chad Cornes about various Power players while showing highlights. Sturt got no mention any further than the fact that it was the opponent. Port Power might as well have been playing with themselves. Would it really have hurt to have given an appraisal of the Sturt team and mention of the better players? It really is a sad indictment on how far football journalism has sunk in this country.

They played 5aa commentary while the game was on at the ground. Was basically the same as nines news, hardly any mention of the Blues.
Was a good match to watch. Bigger bodies and pace won out in the end which was expected. Good signs there though from the young Double Blue lads.
Funny to see the confusion on the supporters with Magpie hats and Power t-shirts on in the second game. They had no idea what to do

congratulations to the Port Power football club for putting on a great day.
I think it was a big success, and great for the sturt and port magpie fans to see thier sides do battle against the power.
Considering sturt played an inexperienced line up they did quite well,as did the magpies.
I would love to see the panthers playing against and afl team during the preseason.
The power and the Crows might be the big boys in town, but neither can neglect the fact of thier ties to the the SANFL.
Bring on the the SANFL season and go you panthers!!! :D

"congratulations to the Port Power football club for putting on a great day"

Cant believe the prices they were charging for drinks.
Water 3.80 we draught can 6.00 j walker can 8.00 udl 9.00.
I wasnt game to look at the food prices.

Now if i remember correctly, port power (fans) were complaining last year about the price of tickets to an afl game.
Well I hope they let THEIR club know about the ludicrously high rip off prices THEY were charging at alberton oval.

Also was great to see Tom Logan trying to be a hero when the melee was on in the first quarter by running in knees first into the scrum only to collect Chad Cornes in the face!!

Its not just football journalism that has gone down the toilet in this state. Journalism in general is a complete and utter disgrace. Look at that tabloid rag known as "The Advertiser". I refuse to buy such a complete joke of a paper. As for the TV, just look at channel 7 and 9 and 10 and what they dish up for news these days. Its one self-centred sensationalist story after another followed by some story about some cat up a tree. If you want to have any idea what's going on in the world you have to watch SBS and/or ABC. Its utterly depressing what's dished up these days as journalism.

Spot on. Cheers for donating match proceeds to the bushfire appeal but there definitely seemed to be some skimming of the cream in other ways. The grandstand bar still had the regular prices in the back and the 'abridged' prices hastily arranged at the front - the bartender didn't appreciate having that pointed out.

What was the Port vs Port score? I'm guessing Port won.
