It will be great when it's done, but 5 years is to long, why can't they do it next year?

FACT

"Most football supporters come from the northern and southern suburbs. AAMI Stadium is equal distance from both"

are you serious.??????

as opposed to a stadium in the city which is obviously an unequal distance between north and south.

what a brilliant point you make SANFL  .

"AAMI Stadium is the only responsible, viable option in a city that needs two stadia – one for cricket, one for football due to overlapping schedules. It’s the same in all mainland capital cities"

Another well researched argument. No way a stadium in Adelaide could solve that dilema.

I reckon the new plans for the AAMI Stadium redevolpment look fantastic. The new eastern/western entrances are what everyone has been asking for - something that resembles Telstra Dome/MCG. The new, modern concessions area looks stunning. The seats in the new stands will be closer to the action - again what everyone's been crying out for. An extra 10 000+ seats will be undercover with the new stands - again what people want.

It will actually make the 'premium' seating (on the wings) quite distinctive from the 'standard' seating (behind the goals). The SANFL have listened to the people and giving them what they want.

Not really, it seems like nearly everyone wanted AAMI bulldozed.

There was some talk in the sale of the land at the corner of Footy Park (opposite Macca's) being sold for apartment buildings, which would provide some finance but also a ready market for any restaurants, shops, bars that may be opened at Footy Park as a result of the redevelopment. Any news on that?

The one thing that screws up the central location argument is that Adelaide is one of the few cities that doesn't have a decent freeway system running through the metro area. IMO, it doesn't matter where you put the damn thing, as long as it's a decent stadium.

The only thing that roots up the West Lakes location is not having that train line they promised.

I would have thought West Lakes was easier to get to from the northern and southern suburbs than the CBD - at least by car.
I haven't used Adelaide public transport since 1996, when I lived at West Lakes, and found it reasonably convenient.

Nup, not even close. CBD is quicker to get to (even in peak hour) than West Lakes and the CBD is much easier to get in and out of.
Ive do the CBD drive every day and have done the West Lakes drive hundreds of times too.
It might be easier for the Northerners though as it is on the north side of town and near the new Port expressway.

So just to clarify in 2013 after these redevelopments.

AAMI stadium will have the exact same capacity as it does now. And it will not have a roof. What is the point ???.

Seems like it's going to continually be 'a bit of this and a bit of that' with this stadium.

What's the point? as you ask. The way I see it history will only repeat itself from the eventual rationalization of grounds in Melbourne' The reality is for the good of the community in general, there must be a centralised stadium to add to the whole experience. Pre-game dining, post-game celebrations, ease of accessibility. These knuckleheads down at the SANFL have conveniently forgotten that the VFL/AFL spent thousands on another re-fit at Waverly but over time they realised they just couldn't keep throwing hand over fist because one notable difference - Joe Public didn't want to go there.

I'm considering taking odds for as to how many years it'll be before they eat humble pie and we end up with a venue in the city - any takers

Do people really not want to go there, or is it agenda pushers who tell us we don't want to go there?

Also, does this new development have any increase in shops/restaurants to increase the overall match experience of the punter?

As much as I enjoy watching footy, I think its home, used for major crowds at AFL matches, should stay in the western suburbs and not impact on the amenity of anywhere I may choose to live... 8) ;)

DW have a look at the fly thru on the website and you can clearly see commerial buildings in the NorthWest and South West corners...looks like they are going to try and make it a commercial precinct

While it does look good a couple of points -

> The Eastern stand will be terrible to sit in, up high and looking straight into the setting sun for Day games, IMO they would have been better off putting that stand at the Southern end
> They need to make sure FIFA are happy with the redevelopment, no use doing it and then still not being able to host a world cup game
> They should make the bottom tier a moveable section so it can be moved onto the ground for Soccer/Rugby like the Dome and Olympic Stadium

Good idea but the only prob with that is the steep curve the playing arena is on for drainage purposes.
The stand would have to travel up hill, meaning the rear of the stand would need to tilt backwards also.
Not impossible but i'm sure very, very expensive and a nightmare to design.

I tend to agree with you there - it only became as big an issue as it is now because The Advertiser jump on the 'Build a CBD stadium' bandwagon. If they want one that bad (and I say this with tongue firmly in cheek), why don't they get their boss (Murdoch) to build one, I'm sure he can afford it.

the best upgrade would be to demolish the dump, and build a new stadium somewhere central, i don't like going there because it is a prick of a location :(
