Without even really thinking about it, here's my quick stab: (I assume I've got the order right, can't even find any 2008 ladders...)
1. West - Jackson Trengove
2. South - Shaun McKernan
3. North - Jason Davenport
4. WWT - Tom Lee
5. Port - Mitchell Banner
6. Norwood - Will Young
7. Sturt - Rory Sloane
8. Glenelg - Jesse Laurie
9. Central - Ricky Henderson
10. West - Brian Donnelly

probably works better for the individual players, rather than what works best for the SANFL club

IMO west will take Davenport and be left with Donnelly.

Can't see him slipping that far. Is still a good 12 months away from AFL and West will punce because he can ruck.
I agree Donnelly AT 10. Thing is though, you're probably going to get the most SANFL footy out of him than anyone else in the 'draft' so he could be a nice pick-up for some team.

That is if the club has enough patience to teach him how to kick.

As Im sure we all do, you hear whispers all the time relating to the SANFL ... One of these is always along the lines of the 2 local AFL clubs pretty much directing their players to preferred destinations (SANFL Clubs) ... Is this just wishy-washy rumour-mongering, or is there substance to it?

Jackson Trengove can ruck, yep and that would be the last thing the kid needs or port wants. He wont ruck at AFL level so go to a club where he can play key position.
As I said my list is based more around where the player is better suited rather than the sanfl club making the best choice for them.

I think you wil find there is a bit of both.
SANFL clubs asking the AFL clubs about the players and for advice on who they should take.
AFL clubs contacting the SANFL club and suggesting who they would like them to pick.
However at the end of the day the SANFL clubs make the choices and quite often go against the AFL clubs wishes.

It's not always that easy. If the club drafts him, they can play him wherever they like.

Cheers for that mate, I'd often wondered how much credence there is to it, what you've said there makes sense for both clubs I guess.

you are right in that it is not that easy.
In the perfect world the club would put the kid before themselves.
But as you have pointed out it is not that simple

When is the internal draft?
Think the Eagles will go for an onballer..........but depends on earlier picks.

I see it going slightly different:shock:
1 West (Jason Davenport) Best player in this draft, ready to go.
2 Souths (Jackson Trengove) Souths may take a tall
3 Norths (Mitch Banner) Best small to compliment their new talls
4 WWT (Rory Sloane) Maybe a hunch, best replacement for the skipworth loss, but could easily take a tall
5 Ports (Will Young) Could go this key position player
6 Norwood (Shaun McKernan) Norwoods like WA,ST,WWT need a ruckman, incase Doyle goes down
7 Sturts (Tom Lee) Next best tall
8 Glenelg (Jessie Laurie) No reasoning
9 Centrals (Brian Donnelly) Maybe better value then Henderson
10 West (Ricky Henderson) As with above purely a project player

The Crows wont want him playing as a ruckman, and I think with Doyle, Tyrell and Cockshell we've got enough options there.

If McKernan is available at pick four the Eagles should take him. Can play forward ruck and in defence. Eagles are very short of tall defenders (no pun intended).

I can't seem to remember when it's taken place from years gone by ???
