New Sturt CEO

The Sturt Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Matt Benson to the position of Chief Executive Officer. After the unexpected resignation of Stuart Totham who has moved to Darwin with the new NT team, Matt assumed the role in a caretaker capacity in early October.
He decided to apply for the job on a permanent basis during the club’s search process, and was offered the position late last week after being chosen from a field of over 40 applicants.
Richard Allen, President of Sturt, is delighted with the outcome “We had a tremendous response to our advertisement and interviewed a number of outstanding candidates. We were thrilled that Matt decided to apply – but he had to win the job fair and square after an exhaustive process” he added.
Benson returns to the job after being General Manager in 1997-98 at a time when the club was literally fighting for survival “It is a very different place now – having a competitive League side and coming off a win in the SANFL’s Stanley H Lewis Trophy for the most successful club on-field has us all very excited about a big 2009” he said.
Matt Benson has a rich history with Sturt having also played 95 League and Reserves games in the ‘80s and more recently as a member of the Board of Directors responsible for venue management.
“I am absolutely thrilled to be back at Sturt in this role – it’s obviously a place that’s very close to my heart and I have always felt I had unfinished business here – a couple of premierships in the next 5 years would be the cream on the cake wouldn’t it?”
The club is anticipates making an announcement regarding the senior coaching position by the end of the week.
