There has been strong word spreading around that Ian had an announcement to make in the coming weeks ???

Could be retirement, could be that he is nominating for the draft, could be he is running for President ???

Time will tell, we will just have to wait and see I guess...

Bayman, your text message from your Sturt mate was spot on the money...

Just got the "Easter Courier" (Norwood / Sturt Messenger) and this article was written by Reece Homfray (couldn't find the link on Messengers website)

Reece Homfray @ Messenger Press wrote:Closing the footy chapter

SANFL | REECE HOMFRAY

STURT centre half forward Ian Perrie has retired from football.

The former Adelaide Crow bows out after 116 AFL games and 97 in the SANFL with North Adelaide and the Double Blues.

At 29, Perrie said the body was battling to keep up with the demands of SANFL football and he wanted to concentrate on his career as a builder.

"There's a couple of opportunities, work wise, next year and they're not going to wait around", Perrie said.

"And I want to take advantage of that".

"So now is the time to close the chapter on footy".

Perrie spoke to several senior players at Unley Oval before making his decision.

"I enjoyed my time at Sturt more than I expected," he said.

"The boys and the culture at that club are fantastic and they've got a great work ethic.

"I just knew I had to make a decision at the end of the year. My footy isn't probably going up anymore.

"and we've got a strong Reserves side with blokes who could fill my spot and be there for the next 10 years."

Congratulations to the Sarge on a great career and good luck in the building trade in the coming years. I'm not 100% sure but wasn't Ian linked to South Adelaide when the Crows first drafted him ? It would have been a few years back now but I think he played league for the Panthers ?

Anyway, good article and interview from Reece, as always, and it's really good to see covergae on the SANFL this early in the off season.

bugger, thought he has plenty more to offer
had a good 08, 40 goals and took some pressure off of Chambo

all the best for the future mate, but I agree with TB

Indeed he was aligned with South. Played quite a few league games with them including the game he played on Hargraves at AO when Hargy kicked a lazy 13

Maybe the Sarge is moving on to another club in 2009, to ensure he gets around to all 9 clubs before his career is over.

Well he wouldn't come to the Bays, because as his bitch, he'd have to polish Forest's boot before every game......

Thanks Sarge.

Who can forget your fantastic effort against Norwood in Round 1 or your match-winning effort against Port at Unley?

A great opportunity awaits for "Fish" Herring in 2009 and beyond. :D :D :D

I'll put my hand up and say I thought Sturt were making a huge mistake taking Sarge. I expected him to spend a fair bit of time on the injury list. It ended up being a good move and he had a really good year. Best of luck to him in retirement.
