Why would a Glenelg player go on television and say Centrals are old, tired and their time is over ? He might be right but FFS dont say that before the game.
Do Glenelg enjoy losing Grand Finals ? Why would you give your opponent even more motivation to win, that is exactly the type of comments that would inspire the likes of the Gowans boys and other older players.
Wait until 5.00pm Sunday then see how old and tired they are. Not too old or tired to lift the cup I bet.

Not real smart

I haven't seen it myself, but have read that Schell was there with him when the comments were made? If so, I imagine it was a bit of light-hearted fun between them? Quite possibly wrong as I haven't seen it, but doesn't seem too over the top under those circumstances.

I dont think too many took that in a light hearted manner.
Glenelg have won 1 finals game.....how many have Centrals won in the last 9 years ?
Remember the Hicks era .....when Centrals were minor premiers and played Glenelg in the second semi....Hicks made his players do a lap of honor BEFORE the game and Glenelg were incensed. Glenelg flogged Centrals that day and Centrals lost the week after.
I think Grima's comments would be worth about 3 to 4 goals.
If I were Mark Mikan I would be furious.

As smac said above, if they were said in that context, there would be no problems. Is Grima known for having Akka Disease (aka Foot in mouth)

Funny comments if they were in the context you are suggesting smac but stupid ones if not. I am sure Schell had something to say to him either way.

As Andrew McLeod once said... never tell an opponent when he's having a bad day... because that might just be the spark that he needs

id think the comments were made light-heartedly given Grima's brother played out there and im sure he would know a few of the boys.
even if the comments were serious, then whats wrong with that?????
it beats hearing the same old shite that everyone uses

That's a good point too MT79. Another area where the SANFL surpasses the sterile world of professional/elite sports.

I saw the interview. I half wondered if the comments might have been scripted by channel 9 in an effort to spice up the story.

You mean wait till 5.45 pm when the game is over to see if they are too old or tired to lift the cup and do the lap of the ground.

Id like to see the context he said it in, Im sure it was said in humour.
Plus Grima is well aware how to win GFs as he played in a premiership side last year.
Also just about the player of the finals so far too IMHO, I love watching him play.

is probably telling the truth but you never say that about a side you are playing in a G/F

As I understand it, he didn't shake Schell's hand either ... *runs & hides*

Schelly wasn't their with him, it was 2 seperate interviews at the boys place of employment...
I thought Grima's comment was a tad innapropriate and Schelly just spoke about how they are used to all the hype and fan fare...

Nothing wrong with a bit of banter.
