Best CHB in 2008

Postby wycbloods » Tue Aug 19, 2008 7:20 pm

I noticed there had been some discussion about this in other threads so i think it needs one of its own.

For me it is Ryan Ferguson and Daniel Schell. Ferguson wins because he is from westies  .

If Rudolph had played more footy at CHB i would have him with those two but i think he has played in most of the back six spots. Ferguson has rarely been beaten and he has had a midfield that has made the supply to the CHF very good and lots of it.

I wouldn't put Schell up as high as equal best CHB for the season, his form (like the rest of the team) has been a little too patchy to claim best in the league.

Yes, I agree. There is no doubt that McLeay is number 14.

Ryan Ferguson, however, is the best CHB in the League by a fair margin.

Not based on what I've seen this year.

two best I've seen - Schell and McLeay

Admitedly I haven't been "fortunate" to see Ferguson each week but based on games v Glenelg its Schell and McLeay

TM, you obviously haven't seen much of Ferguson, judging by that statement.

His official stats last Saturday:

10 Kicks

17 Handballs

13 Marks

Apart from that, he's taken Mark of the Year and possibly the next best 3 or 4 'courageous' marks.

Stats can be misleading, but for a CHB, those stats are outstanding. Have another look at them.

Stats are misleading. Considering West have only won two games, I dare say he's seen a hell of a lot of football flying around his area....

Sam Rudolph beat Alleway on Sunday, yet only got 7 kicks, 2 marks & 6 handballs....

Forrest does a job each week on the 2nd tall. Rarely beaten but isn't the best CHB in the league.

R&B given you club's forwards and midfield performances this year i.e. the amount of ball that gets into the westies backline the fact that he gets 30 touches each week is not surprising. If Ferguson was any good he'd be getting 40 touches a week...

Also given the flooding tactics that Westies play - the amount of Westies players in the backlines allows ferguson to zone off his man and get relatively easy possessions. Not that I blame your club for looking for him as a go to person in the defence as he is well skilled and one of your better players. My point is your game style allows him to pick up possessions for more readily than a McLeay, Schell, Rudolph and Bown. So spare me the stats details Fergusson gets compared to other backmen in this league.

Yes he's a good player and is definately one of the better backmen in the competition but having seen clubs this year I stand by the fact that Schell and Mcleay are the two best CHB in the comp.

Yes, stats are misleading, but 27 possessions and 13 marks from CHB is outstanding.

If we ignore stats, then Best on Ground can't be ignored.
