What can happen and although it may not in every case, is that the next coach then inherits a playing group where the players call the shots and that is completley inappropriate in any case whatsoever.
Suppose WWT do go and sack Ron Fuller because he has lost the support of the players, what happens next year when the coach tells a senior player to go wash his car for turning up late to training? Does the player do that or tell the coach to go firetruck himself?
The best coach South had IMO was ex Woodville John Reid, who was eventually sacked from South for much the same reason as is being touted for Ron Fuller to be given the sack. It is the opinion of a number of South members in retrospect, that doing this has caused the problems that we have today were several coaches have been sacked for "losing the support of the players" and the club has reguarly taken its place at the bottom of the ladder as a result.
I think that even if WWT finish outside of the eight that it is premature to give Ron the sack. Perhaps the better option might be for some of the members of the club to stand together and tell the club that they would like the club to engage Kevin Morris to undertake a full review of the club whilst the season is in progress so that a no holds barred report can be given to the members and board of the club.
If Ron really does not have the support of the players then get rid of the hearsay about it and have Kevin Morris put it to print as it was done in the case of Robert Pyman from South. Get Kevins thoughts on what he thinks on the clubs recruiting and if it really is a case of Ron Fuller having to much influence in that area.
The report does two things, one is that it will dispel all the stuff about the coaching position, the second advantage is that it will spell out to all the members and supporters what they really need to do in order to take part in the revivial of the club back into the five and into the finals.
No doubt people are really upset at seeing the club finish outside of the five, yet do something positive like a review process of the club and motivate the members to put their energies into stuff that will be positive for the whole club - lets face it, do you in 15 years time want to be where South are now?
