I didn't think it was too bad. No different to 1991 with the Roosters antics.

Going on past tribunal history - Reprimand.

In reality they should fine him a very large sum of money. Fine him $20k and see how many people do that again.

As a long time sanfl observer I can honestly say that the incident referred to ranks with Kerley v Nygaard and Sims v simpson and some of Grangers handywork as well.
An apallingly weak and cowardly act which should receive 6 weeks at least.

Stampy

Read the comments by a select few that rated their favourite highlights as a cheap shot by sims on simpson in the 1991 GF, maybe this will be their new highlight of all time

Hated both idiot twins since they entered the SANFL and the morons didn't nothing to help change my opinion today. Congratulations to the other 19 Centrals players on a well deserved victory and well earned premiership. As for J Gowans..............Cowards always get what they deserve in the end and if he thinks this incident will be forgotton by North Adelaide I think he is dreaming. If he gets 6 weeks (which he should) I hope the SANFL have a sence of humor and work the draw around North being Centrals oponents in round 7. Pitty about ANZAC day tradition.

A new low for a Gowan's, that's disgraceful. I don't think 6 would be enough, a gutless thing like that in a GF deserves double-time in my opinion, it's easy to try to take out a player in the biggest game of the year just ask Cahill and Granger, keep in mind he's still eligible for the Magarey next year if found guilty. On RPH they said that one of the Gowan's threw a bottle at a North runner during the same incident. What a pathetic show of character in the last minutes of a GF slaughter.

It's as bad as Simsy's incident and I thought that was a disgrace too even tho he played for my team

A very serious injury could have happened from that stupid act - how ridiculous to have a brain failure 2 minutes before the end of the match. It almost smacks of a guy knowing he is playing his last game :-k

Well, it will be his last for a while anyway

Pot kettle black being an opposition trianer I saw some of Macca's finest work close hand but I'm not going to have a go at Macca as my club when it was successful had blokes who pushed the line and crossed it.

However J Gowans does deserve to go for that given how intentional it was, the state of the game and the fact it was committed in a GF (i.e. players prone to do more "reckless" acts given that the penalty is onl;y early games in the following season and you can keep your medal). It is as bad as Scooters incident v Champion, Sims v Simpson IMHO. I would like to know what made him do it. Given the Gowans live by the sword die by the sword philosophy I reckon James wouldn't and most importantly shouldn't quibble if given 6 to 8 weeks.

Having said all that I would still like both Gowans in black and gold.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I was actually quite taken aback to see that happen, not having seen any incident that could have led to it being some type of payback. Six weeks is not remotley near enough for what an incident like that deserves.

I wonder how funny Gowans would think it was if he was arrested for assualt and got to spend tonight in jail? That is what that incident deserves.

Spot on Sojo. Even funnier was watching him try and justify his actions to, first the umpire, and then his bench when he got sent off for blood.
Then when goes up to recieve his medalhe seamed guenuinely confused as to why some portions of the ground booed him. :? :? Not a real bright spark I wouldn't have thought. As the Umpire said to him as he reported him.........."go watch the tape." when he does I'm sure he'll understand why he was booed..........and will be for the remainder of his carear. (if he does go on)
