Glenelg shows grit to win a Classic Encounter.

Postby sturtpeter » Sun Sep 16, 2007 5:18 pm

As much as it hurts me, Glenelg were deserved winners of today's Elimination Final. We had chances but again were wasteful and let Glenelg regain the initiative after we managed to go up by 12 points in a tough, low-scoring encounter.

Hope the Bays can go all the way in 2007 and congratulations to Sturt on their brave Season too.

sp, condolences to you, you must be gutted, i know i would be, i just couldnt see us getting up all day, when we hit the front i just wanted the siren to go and when feast took that grab i wanted to run out the ground, well done to sturt this year in particular rick mcgowan, the guy is a top coach who obviously had his players playing for him, from a glenelg perspective chambers is a champion player albeit his discipline leaves a lot to be desired when things dont go his way

Thanks stampy.

Showing my age now lol but now I know how the Bays felt in 1976 after leading they lost by 7 points in Kerley's last match as Bays' Coach. (Preliminary Final.)

I feel for Sturt people tonight that would be devastating to lose like that - like the Crows last week tough when you lead all day and go down right at the end

Very brave effort by both sides

Well done Sturt on a great season - great launching pad for 2008

As for the Bays ..... gutsy win well played

Truly one of the best games ever. Tight low scoring contest followed by a last quarter shootout, fantastic to watch.

Bays showed real character never giving in, I hope they do well next week.

A new record for the two clubs, involved in the lowest winning margin in SANFL Elimination finals history. Pity we were on the wrong end, but it makes me love and hate the game even more.

Unlucky Double blues. I guess we should spare a thought for Feast. Had the chance to win it at the death and won't be able to get it out of his system until next year. Unlucky Feast. Keep you chin up.

Bays v WWT, both had a tough game today so it will be down to who is the fitter team. Bays will be cock-a-hoop after bringing back from the death. The Eagles will be stunned that they let it get away. Fancy Glenelg next week. Sorry WWT.

North v Doggies. How will North hold up next week and how will the Dogs perform after missing two weeks of footy?

good to see the bays run out the whole game today, especially with some of the bigger names in the team not getting into the match, Rudolph looked good up front and what about Ben Moores last couple of minutes in what could have been his last game of SANFL. It was bloody windy today and that had an affect on the skills today from both sides. (Except it didnt seem to bother Chambers) Simon Feast Had a good game until THAT kick, but like i said, it was bloody windy. I took my 12 year old daughter to her first game of footy today, ( shes not into sports) and after the game when we were jumping up and down and singing the club song she says....WHO WON!.... I looked at her and just shook my head......... kids eh!, anyway, it was a good drive home, and I live in doggies teritory...

PS Bad luck to Sturt, You had a great year, well done Rick in his first year in the top job. My heart rate was right up there today and its only just starting to come down now...................

Lucky, but still great to win a final, plenty of our better players where down today and we didn't get our run going at all. Should be better for having played a final as it looked as though we where nervous, will be interesting to see how we come out this week and if there are any changes, as there are plenty of players waiting to gain a spot in the 21, should keep everyone on there toes.

SP, all credit to the Sturt Football Club.

After the game your coach and captains visited the Bays rooms, and spoke for a minute or so.

You could have heard a pin drop.

They congratulated us on a great/hard game of footy, and Rick made a point for the bays not to think they have done their job, but to keep fighting our way through the finals.

Absolutely magnificent gesture.
