Not yet

Who would be older?

Maybe the Eagles, just?

I found an old Budget from Round 1 this year in my drawer at work and calculated this based on the oldest half a dozen or so players that will be playing in season 2012, as far as we know:

EAGELS: J.Cicolella, L.Powell, M.McKenzie, L.Jarrad, C.Parry, A.Grocke, B.Greiger = 195 years combined

vs

STURT: J.Sheedy, T.Gum, L.Crane, M.Duldig, J.Plant, B.Kane, L.Panozzo = 192* years combined

(*not including Chambers)

Obviously finished out his career in the 2's with the Bays and was playing some good football as a small forward as he had done in a pinch hitting role for Glenelg at senior level, briefly, in the past.

Agree

Yeah, I actually think he is very dangerous as a small forward as he has good finishing skills and pace to burn.

Tallish small forward at 6"1, not really noted as a goalkicker as a rule either.

On the question of older lists, without doing all the calculations, I wouldn't be surprised if it was actually North Adelaide that would go close on average age of the squad.

Hey mate, where did you get this from. Was just forwarding the news to a few mates and was wondering the source? I think Luke will be a good addition, was my favourite player, always up for a chat.

Yeah, 6"1 is probably that in between height - not key forward, not small either (hence your 'tallish small' comment) - that's why I mentioned when he has gone up forward in a pinch hitting role, I think he has done alright and that is possibly a more permanent role the Double Blues could perhaps look to use him in?

In the times I've seen Panozzo play forward for the Bays, he has played more in that 'nippy, qucik off the mark, lead up and crumbing small forward' - as opposed to the 'plonk in the goal square and kick it on his head' forward !!!

Off track I know, but...

Because it is late Friday afternoon AND it is quiet in the office AND I'm killing time until 5pm AND as I mentioned earlier, I found a Budget from Round 1 of season 2010, I thought I would do some quick calculations myself:

* This list shows the avergae age for each club based purely on the total age count divided by number of players listed in the Budget for Round 1 (Central's based on Round 2 as they had the first up bye) action from the start of the 2010 season.

I know it doesn't take into consideration injured players who didn't play, AFL players not playing, players that didn't actually play in Round 1, Retirements, Recruits etc etc but it is all that I could work from for the time being.

1. West - 598 total age / 25 players listed = 23.92 average age
2. Nw'd - 568 total age / 24 players listed = 23.67 average age
3. Strt - 539 total age / 23 players listed = 23.43 average age
4. Eags - 559 total age / 24 players listed = 23.29 average age
5. Port - 512 total age / 22 players listed = 23.27 average age
6. Dogs - 558 total age / 24 players listed = 23.25 average age
7. Gl'ng - 477 total age / 21 players listed = 22.71 average age
8. Panf - 474 total age / 22 players listed = 21.55 average age
9. N'rth - 492 total age / 22 players listed = 21.39 average age

Good work, BP :) .

Don't forget, however, that by the end of 2011, North had Brett Backwell (31), Michael Handby (28, rising 29), Todd Miles (turning 27) all as additions to that side, and they are just off the top of my head. Not sure how much that would tweak the overall figures. For the exercise, I'm assuming Daniel Motlop will not return to North, but will take up a role in the River Murray League, as has been touted.

For Norwood, their squad, for example, would drop slightly with James Gallagher (31) retiring, along with a couple of others.

That may not tweak things too much, but might be worth looking at, to see where, as the squads sit right now, the lists are all at.

On the other hand by the end of 2011 North had Nick Amato and Sam Mayes both at 16 and a number of other teenagers in the side. I think that would re-tweak the figures fairly quickly. Furthermore if the three you quote (Backwell, Handby and MIles) were replacing three players of the average age, that would only raise North's average by about a year in total.

2010 Sturt recruit one Bays player, drop four spots and finish 5th
2011 Sturt recruit one Bays player (admitadly via Angaston) drop four spots and finish 9th
2012 Sturt recruit TWO Bays players, I feel confident in predicting Sturt will finish eighth in Div 1 Ammos....

You do the math, I know I have.

Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

2. Paul Cahill "superior leadership qualities" um I don't think so. My understanding is he hasn't even fronted for training yet

I'm not expecting to see Panoz out on the oval til half way thru the season seeing as he had post GF surgery on a shoulder.
Has also become a Dad recently. So looks like he will have some time available to spend bonding with his baby before refocussing on gaining a league spot.

Topsy I think you mean Aaron Kite .... not Aaron Keating. The latter was a premiership player who came from South.

sounds like sour grapes am bays. Sturt were always going to struggle this year as we had lost lots of experienced players, recruiting a bays player has nothing to do with it.
