It would also bring Mannum's points (points system) higher, assuming that Clive Waterhouse stayed there in 2010. A first year SANFL player like Clayton would be a fair addition to their points, and I believe they were very close last year as it was.

I would suspect if he wants out, the Magpies would play extremely hardball. I am sure he doesnt want to sit out of footy for 12 months.

If? He told Bamford weeks ago that he wants out. Not much point having a bloke on your list that just doesn't want to be there.

Having said that, I cant blame Port for wanting something back considering he is contracted for next year. Although Port don't want to let him go, they'd be less pissed off about letting him go to another state than to a rival SANFL club. It'd rub salt into the wounds if he was carving them up in an opposition guernsey. He definitely would be playing for another SANFL club next year if it wasn't for that one year contract and had already agreed to play for them.

Jarman is pretty confident of getting him across and was just sweating on the PSD/Rookie Draft to find out. Hopefully Perth can come to terms with Port about transfer fees etc.

AFL DREAM DRIVES JONATHON

AFTER four years on Port Power’s list without an AFL game to his name, Jonathon Giles was cut, but now is focused on giving his all for another chance – even leaving his beloved Central District.

The best-case scenario for the 21-year-old was to get picked up in yesterday’s rookie draft, but now he wants to give himself every opportunity to have a breakout season in the SANFL next year for what he considers his last chance.

“It was a hard decision and I spoke to several people,” Giles said.

“There were several crucial points but at the end of the day I wanted a fresh change and a new opportunity.

“Playing in the past two premierships with the Bulldogs were some of the best times in my life.”

The big man was focused on yesterday’s rookie draft but now wants to dedicate next season to being the best he can to try and force his way onto an AFL list, which he sees as perhaps his last chance.

As anyone would be, Giles was extremely disappointed with his axing from the Power and he feels his best chance of being recognised is at another club, with Sturt being considered the early front runner for his signature.

“Nothing against Central, the club has been fantastic, it was the hardest decision I have ever made, to leave a club I have grown up with and had so much success with,” Giles Said.

“After being delisted by Port I started thinking the ball was in my court. Port had always looked after me and I followed their advice, now I have to take responsibility, along with my manager Adrian Battison.”

Only signed with Mannum for one year, so unless he leaves mid season he will be a massive pick up for Mannum.
