We'll i dont really have a crystal clear photographic memory of that split second in time when he may or may not have dropped that mark.
but i do have a good memory of what happened next.
GOAL to McConnell and fists raised to the hill.

Sure, luck may have played a part in that passage of play. I guess thats what is annoying you.
But the fact is that although he didnt take the mark, he hit the ground running, found the footy and kicked truly at a crucial stage.
That tells me he is no hack. Sometimes you make your own luck.
Yeah, Naah,..... Bollocks!

I don't think - would have an issue with him dropping a mark, I think - had an issue with him chickening out of the mark.

I think McConnell's a great player and its great to see him up forward where he's fantastic to watch but that's completely irrelevent to -'s point. One Bay supporter has said it was crap, and another has virtually confirmed it as has a neutral supporter.
Seems some people see what they want to? :?

When he kicked the goal, I said to 1980TM I think it was the first time I had ever seen him make a THIRD effort at the one ball in one play.

Amazing skills.
He's still my hero even if he is a little bit crap.

Amazing skills would have got the ball on first (or at worst, second) effort, surely?

should have held it first time, but it was good work to keep at it and eventually kick the goal

what lesson is that?????

ive had them going for big bucks twice this year and they let me down

the lesson ive learned is that it is hard to bet on teams that have jekyll and hyde personalities like glenelg

just because i had my money on Port doesnt mean I wasnt supporting the boys any less......

i wasnt the only glenelg member to have backed Port in fact i know of 5 others that also had there cash on Port

One of funniest things I saw was when Hargs went to bench and practically every bay supporter waved him off the ground, unfortunatly he came back on a goaled.

I agree with you - did you see the same thing in the first qtr or do you just want to highlight McConnells effort?

At the 10 min mark of the first quarter, the Port FF (Hargraves) hanging back for the soft easy kick after Rudolph attacked the footy he turns and kicks into an open goal...as you say sometimes theres no justice in footy.

My first inkling that this could be our day was at the five minute mark of the 1st qtr when Sammy Rudolph attacked the footy, took the mark stuffed up the handball but went again forced the turnover, gave it correctly, then ran to create the option received the ball and ran with it and then pumped it long into our forward 50.

Where was Hargy? Hanging back again, that effort basically said we want it and are prepared to work for it (3rd and 4th efforts). Port (Hargraves) are going to "chicken" out...

Fortune favours the brave in footy

A GOLD moment...not only after the marking effort did he attack the footy and run through two Port players ??? he than turned and ran through three Glenleg players (trying to celebrate the goal) towards the boys on the hill to celebrate with teh Snouts....

A KENMAX electrical play of the day IMO.....

Agreed

Allmost as feeble as the efforts of the two Port players to stop him after he dropped the mark no intensity by them to either a) attack McConnell or b) attack the footy, he brushed past them and goalski....

If you asked the player wedgie and he answered honestly it would confirm my point. I was a matter of metres away from it. The Glenelg supporter I was standing with agreed with me totally.

Psuedo put it beautifully a great game of footy two teams going hard at it with the inevitable mistakes.

Micklejohn impressed me rucking all day and was good around the ground. I'm pleased I can say I've seen a good youg career start off with Summerton, gee he goes hard at it and loves to run and chase bigger opponents. A great effort by his to chacne down Hinge (???) in the 3rd qtr that resulted in a defensive turnover and goal for Port as we started to close the gap before 3/4 time.

For us there were no passengers The defence was good all day with Rudolph and Kane outstanding IMO. A lot of drive and run for us was created by Rudolp and Kane, yep Hargy kicked six goals but in the 1st and 2nd qtrs Rudolph kept running off him at will setting up many attacks for us. I can see why Jars let him go, good at marking but he is so 1 dimensional now his ground work is vrtually non existant and good young opponents just run off him...

Logan, Kane Fisher and Mouse were at the contest all day in and under winning the footy. The pleasing thing from my pwerspective we just kept working all day getting to the contest getting front positin winning the ball or the free kick.

Our tackling, shepherding and smothering was sensational at times helped create turnovers and put pressure on teh Port runners.

The disappointing part of the days was that several times we tried to be cute or did the selfish thing by taking on Port players instead of passing the footy to a player in better position and that resulted in a turnover, classic example about 10 mnin into the last qtr we're 4 goals up and we're clear running into the 50 and we do a short chip pass that misses the target (too short) Port get the rebound, clear it to the open side three kicks later goal to port and they have a sniff again.

So in a nutshell there is plenty of improvement in us yet. We need to develop better cleaner skills that will be hampered by teh loss of Salopek but Bodey is a great chance to come pack at Prospect

All we've done now is keep our destiny in our own hands. By no stretch of the imagination are we finals bound yet. Still a lot of work to do. We have to show the same committment and workrate we demosntrated yesterday that is the foundation stone for all finals sides - players willing to do the team things for the cause.

That IMO was where we were better than Port yesterday, our players were more desperate and willing to sacrifice themselves for the guernsey, their mates and the club.

In a nutshell we wanted it more.

It happened right in front of me too and the dropped mark didn't look good (I winced)

Is it just the dropped mark (the 1st effort) you are critical with or the subsequent efforts to win the pill (which by rights he shouldn't have with two Port players next to him) or the efforts of the Port players, I'm just looking to see if your are selective about your "soft" efforts???

The dropped mark is what im on about. His kick was good. It is just wrong that he got the ball when he didnt want it to start with.
