AFL great, 4 years at GWS, three as back line coach, also works in strength and conditioning, only stopped playing 3 years ago at the top level.

Not saying he isn't suitably qualified - but do you know if they did actually advertise the position, or were happy with the 1st bloke who put up his hand and said "I'm interested"?

Being the unique position that it is, I doubt the open market was the place to find an autonomous coach looking to run his own team.
