I also don't subscribe to the "lost the players theory", the same mantra got John Reid, Ken Sheldon and Ken Applegarth sacked from the club and where did it get the club? Probably a lot longer at the bottom of the ladder than if they had of just drunk up a cup of cement and backed the Senior Coach.

Ron was given a five year contract at South for good reason, our lack of stability of Senior Coaches is a big part of the problem at South. Also I very much doubt that the likes of Nathan Bassett or Andy Collins would be able to do a great deal different with the same players that Ron had available to him on the weekend. Ron Fuller is still very much a Premiership Coach and is what South need whether people like to admit it or not.

Its my opinion that there are some serious problems at South, the same problems that Kevin Morris took to the board of the SAFC when he did a full review of the club when Robert Pyman was coaching. The club is working to address these issues, yet I agree that its not going well at the present moment, my point being that none of that will change if they simply take the soft option and sack the senior coach yet again.

As for the South Adelaide supporters that abused the team and the coaching staff as they left the ground, go f*&k yourself is my advice. Whiteants like yourselves are another reason our club continues to flounder, if you can handle it in the tough times, go support someone else.

Well how about having a sip of cement yourself and talking about these problems, what's to be gained at this stage by hiding from frank discussion..... is the Board too clicky? is it your home ground? Fuller's fourth year no better than his first? Fuller's lack of quality assistants? Gamestyle out of date? Geelong style strip? Supporters being all mouth at pre-season games then going to Europe once the season has started ( you know who you are, how weak! )

I've lived down South since 1992, played footy down here, drank down here, gone to pubs down here, worked down here, played cricket and basketball down here and had kids grow up at schools down here and I can honestly tell you I don't know one person down here that gives a stuff about South, its all SFL or AFL. My mates used to think I was weird for still following the SANFL so passionately. I'm not sinking the boot in nor do I have any answers. Central took almost 40 years to be embraced by their community, maybe it will be the same with South?

Centrals were embraced by the local community in the 70's.

Not effectively enough to win a premiership. ;)

And here's me thinking we needed decent players, a half decent game style and good coaches to win flags. All we had to do was connect with our community and hey presto....

Will say one thing about umpiring in the SFL though, I get more questions and enquiries about Glenelg than I do South at ground like Noarlunga and Morphett Vale.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

yep we need to harden up I guess,..... but advising a South supporter to harden up..mmm I thought seeing its near on 50 yrs since our last flag -those that support us would be reasonably stoic dont you think..??.either that or we could say its all to hard put our skirts up over our heads, and jump into bed with Sturt or West or the Bays....worked for you guys!!
The safc board is not clicky... and what if it was, would that make a lot of difference, to our onfield worries atm...?
Noarlunga is a fine oval, personally I dont think it suits our game plan at the moment.
As for Ron... bottom line......he wont be sacked.
Assistants , well who knows..? -hes got enough of them though, surely some of them are ok!
Our "geelong style strip".... is actually a SAFC strip from the early 1900s. Im personally worried that it has become an away strip rather than a clash strip. but what we wear doesnt make us kick any more or less goals. But then again we could change our jumper again every 5 minutes...I suppose??
As for your last point..do I know you?

Good post B&W, i for one am completely at a loss to explain the on-field performance in all grades, albeit the u/18 are improving under Tony Bamford. After 45 years of support this slump has me baffled, i can't see what, why or how it's turned ugly so quick particularly after a good pre-season when we only lost one player of note (and that note had dollar signs attached!).

maybe it's the public's perception of the brand? When I think of Elders Real Estate, I think of people who sell farms & machinery, when I think of Century 21 I think of Amway. When I think of South Adelaide (please don't take this the wrong way), I think of a drab, unattractive guernsey, old people sitting around in a nice club eating cheap meals to fit into their pension-subsidised budgets & an unprofessional, almost country-like atmosphere at the oval because of the cars parked around the ground. South somehow need to attract young people, they are the future, that's the number 1 priority! What South needs is an almost Phoenix-like re-birth. Why do the young people go to watch & play for the local sides?

The Panthers have been trying that for the last three years haven't they? Hovercraft and smoke rings at the footy, jumping castles and balloons puoppets etc.

Some interesting points there...
but i think that the club has tried everything you could think of to attract people to the ground, you name it..hovercrafts, jumping castles flame throwers and fireworks....and it may scorned upon by others but at least they should be congratulated for at least trying something different, successfull or not.
But the fact remains for South to draw a crowd, survive in the South....it MUST WIN GAMES.
That is the magic bullet and until someone can find the key to the ammo cabinet things will remain the way as they are. :?

well there you go, having an alignment with a politician is a no-no. Maybe try to get a young "celebrity-type", to attract a younger demographic?

Yup!!!

It's the magic bullet for all clubs, Power crowds are up - they're winning, Crows are down - they're losing, Norwood crowds are up they're winning.

Everybody loves a winner. The "matchday experience" is one thing but no one likes to go to watch their team lose.

not having a crack here, just reinforcing B&W point.

Not sure about that........Mike, for all of his sins has done quite a bit for the SAFC.
He has moved OS though so it may be time to move on perhaps...

Maybe that Panther noise after a goal scared the supporters and players off?

Night games are not family friendly, the whole attraction to the young ones is that they can kick on the Oval at the breaks. Not at 9.30pm at night freezing cold and dewy.

Terrible oval set-up to watch the game, the stands virtually behind the goals, ancient uncomfortable seats, the grandstand side standing area is on the half-forward/pocket line, portable dirty toilets.

Many reasons to find excuses not to go, especially with kids at night.
