Just had a read and shows a very well managed footy club, congrats to all involved in these tough times.

Debt is up $700k but presume this has gone into the reno's of the club, noting that the Asset value has gone up a similar amount.

Membership and Match Day income up $50k (up 40%) is a great result, well done Phil H!

Match day income a good effort with their low position on the ladder for most of the season. Hopefully everyone who signed up after the flag in 2011 stays with them

Anyway, financial report here for those who can interpret better than me: http://www.wwtfc.com.au/wp-content/uplo ... Report.pdf

Yes, a consolidated profit of $162k for 2012. One of the items to note in this profit is a $229k grant from the Charles Sturt council to help towards the clubrooms upgrade. So take this figure out and we have a $68k loss. A further $156k to be received from the council in 2013.

The concerning part of the results was a $126k drop from 2011 in the net proceeds from sponsorship and fundraising. I think some of this was from the decision not to have a paying guernsey sponsor (Little Heroes) however sponsorship costs went up by $90k from 2011 to 2012. I'm sure Uby with his marketing background will be working hard with our partners to turn this around.

Overall a solid year for the club off the field. Will need to continue this effort to service the debt we've taken on to help with the clubrooms.

Eagles fans - get your membership, have a meal at the bistro on Port Rd. Ongoing member support is crucial for us going forward.

Not sure well done is correct if the profit result included a Govt. Grant otherwise would have been a loss?

Correct Dutchy. I asked this question of a couple of Board members on the night and received that response. I don't think the Club wants its members to feel like they are going too well and get complacent. With more grant monies coming in 2013 it presents a good picture especially with Uby's commercial expertise in terms of increasing fundraising etc. Increase in debt is based on the re-development which will no doubt increase yield on game days. Well done to CD and the entire Board.

The government grant income was used to help with the capital outlay on the clubrooms. Hence there was no offsetting expenses for this revenue in 2012. The offsetting expense will occur in future years as depreciation on the fitout of the premises hits the accounts.

Don't get me wrong - the clubs finances are not in bad shape - but we did make an underlying loss in 2012 of $68k.

Just for the record...

Sturt $220K loss - club view, based on increasing the value of poker machines

$450K loss - members view (from what was said on the night)

$650K loss - my view, as donations to pay off debt shouldn't be included when looking at how the club traded as an entity.

One thing I hope the SANFL is strong on is that the Salary Cap isn't cut. For the comp to be vibrant and viable we need to attract and retain the best possible players into it. The average SANFL player works bloody hard for bigger all they need to be rewarded.

It is good that we attract the likes of Cachia, Allan, Hooper, Tuck etc to our League.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

 I agree with AB.

Sturt need to focus on their own problems and assign player salary budget based on their ability to pay.

Campaigning for a cap cut would be spending time and energy on an irrelevant factor at a time the club is in crisis.

Yeah, agree also with am Bays...

I read with interest about how Swan Districts are starting to turn things around financially over in the WAFL and was surprised to read that they saved $35k by not spending all of their $217K salary cap in season 2012.

I bet there would be some SANFL clubs jealous of the sponsorship increases that the Swans recieved !!!

We need to draw a distinction between the profit/loss for the current year and the longer term viability of each club.

They are correct in including the donations in the revenue for the year but you are absolutely right that you should exclude it when assessing the long term view for Sturt's survival. Unless of course you continue to get $200k donations every year to pay off the debt!!
