What's the ruling if you are a repeat offender like Norwood.

Nothing. We offended once, we haven't offended since.

At least the massive exodus of players from Elizabeth Oval means you won't have to face this rumour for a year or so.

I'll take that as a no. ;)

Fact is we pay per game, not per season. Mcguinnes played 4, Campbell none, Jericho 11, Newton 11, Batsanis 14 etc.

When and if an "official" charge is laid and we give our FACTS to the SANFL we will be well UNDER the salary cap.

I wonder if this is the reason why West was rotating players late in the season

Why don't West just change to a performance pay structure based on goals kicked ... will never get near the salary cap then.

The SANFL Salary Cap people work with the clubs and tell them how they're tracking, so West and the SANFL must have known well in advance that they were going to be over.

Most clubs would have a high morale if they won the flag, but not take the moral high ground if they cheated the cap.

Member email from West;

The West Adelaide Football Club regret to advise it has breached the SANFL salary cap regulations. At no stage was our salary cap breach intentional. We prepared and submitted our player contracts at the start of the season on the same basis as previous years using certain assumptions which turned out to be incorrect. A complete declaration of our player contracts were fully and transparently disclosed to the SANFL at the appropriate time early in the 2012 season. We take full responsibility for this outcome and apologise to our members, supporters and the SANFL football community for the unintended breach.

The Club understands the South Australian Football Commission will be meeting early next week to discuss the matter and will make no further comment until the Club has been advised of the Commission’s decision.

I'm thinking the same - if it was the case they should have known in advance, it could have been headed off by the club and/or the SANFL, before it transpired into a breach.

Suddenly, the Foxtel Cup and R24(?) team selections have a bit more perspective.
