Tapp at 196cm and 95kg will take on the role as a key defender to assist strengthening the club’s defence for the coming season.

Hmm given my disdain for the NEAFL I'll reserve my jugement on this one. Might be a good depth player for us.

Provided he doesn't leak goals, he should be fine. Probably best to play a plumber on a flank or back pocket next to him.

A bit surprised they have named him as a key defender though. I had him down as a ruckman.

I have seen this bloke play a few times and he looks like a good pick-up. Am bays - get over it - NT footy has improved significantly since you were run out of town

It's not just NT Footy, it is the whole NEAFL and as I've said before it's the lack of depth that is the main issue, players 15-22 (let alone the development 23rd player each week) that just don't cut it. I'm not about to start jumping up and down about a player from up there, just because we have recruited one. However I have been told he goes all right was 2nd best in their last or 2nd last game. Hopefully he proves me wrong and on another note I might sneak out for a game at Marrara in four weeks when I'm up there next. Might get all nostalgic for when footy was really good up there with the Longs, Rioliz, wanganeens, Dunns, McPhees, Lak Laks, Cubillos, Bonsons - the mid 80s, just like the SANFL!
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Throw in Carey as well for the trifecta!

What makes you say it won't happen?

because Cross signed at South tonight

Re the other two - whoever gets Ainger has to take Carey as well, that the other condition Ainger has put on clubs (other than stacks of cash despite having a highly suss ankle) - that is the only way that ball butcherer will get a gig in th SANFL. Please, please don't be us :prayer:

North and the Eagles are having a ding-dong battle - mail is Eagles monster cash deal might pip North's substantial offer, and willing to pay transfer for carey to play in the twos all year as well. Two clubs that should have heaps of cabbage left after huge turnover of quality players leaving this year.

I hope Ainger's 1.5 goals per match average, and dodgy ankle is worth the huge bucks

Not particularly liking the eagles strategy here. Instead of actually taking the initiative and scouring the country leagues, interstate, in the last few years we seem to be much more content at throwing money at players from other SANFL clubs. A very lazy attitude. Ultimately this is an unsustainable strategy and only attracts 'footy mercernaries' to the club. I would like to see Godden replicate what Ron Fuller did back in early 2000s at the eages was to target young talented players from Vic U18s and elsewhere and develop them into the great players - think Treeby, Colville, Powell etc. These players stayed with us for the long term and made our club into a great club over the last 10 years. I have yet to see Godden actually prove he has what it takes to identify talent, recruit it and develop it.

BTW why does whoever get Ainger also have to take Carey????? Seems a bit childish to me. And if I was Carey I wouldn't really be feeling great about myself thinking the only reason I was recruited to a club was to be the security blanket of another player rather than recruited for my ability.

Did that import rule ever get brought in to the SANFL restricting the amount of interstate players you can have in your squad, or how many you can recruit each year? That could be a reason there seems to be more transferring of players within the SANFL.

Anyway, as long as the Eagles are recruiting players in from other clubs and it's not working the other way around, I don't mind. At least you know what you are going to get. Would be great to get another Treeby/Powell/Inkster/Colville type though! Hats off to whoever recruited these blokes!

Their strategy is right on the money! Have already signed a very young defender from Victoria to develop right away! All players want $ it's just some get to command more as they are just what is missing from sides that aren't too far away ie. Ruckmen or CHF.
With 5 or 6 players maybe to be drafted, Godden will have the leftovers from the U18 premiership team plus the undrafted, to develop right now.
Key positions are an issue that is in need right now with Kirk maybe in defence if a ruckman and key forward are recruited which looks well on the cards. We need recruits desperately to contend again! :)

Agree with Aerie and Mr Fuller, not sure whether splashing huge cash around to those shopping for it is the way we want to go. We have been burnt a bit with some of these name players lately, eg Kite, Eddy, Schwarz, Welsh, although in fairness to Welsh it was injuries that caught up with him.
Not real sure we need to target Ainger, with Grocke, Fitzgerald and Staple, I reckon we have enough to work with there, and should be trying to further develop Heinjus as a forward rather than ruckman, plus get Harding back on track. We do need a decent small crumbing forward, or a player like Westbrook who can play small but also take a decent mark.

Sounds like Dolling has left Port to go country.
Mercer and Stanley talking to Gawler Central. However, senior players still trying to convince them to stay.
Seems a number of players are awaiting the appointment of a coach before committing.

Well, Ainger will go to the Eagles which is a shame. Hasn't got over the Glenelg match with Kirk and how its left him with regard to the rest of the playing group. Certainly can play and one of the better marks I've seen of late.

Cross to Victoria for love and Carey to follow as well.

The game was at Noarlunga this year. Kirk went after Ainger and intimidated him badly. We lost by a goal.

Andrew was advised (as any player would be) that the tactics employed by Kirk would occur most games if he didn't "stand up" as they were succesfully used to keep him out of the action. Andrew is probably 6'4" but relatively lightly framed. Hasn't stopped Norwood, North and the Eagles being interested and I for one would love to see him stay.
