So Olsen suggested this is just scuttlebutt?
Correct has not been discussed by the Board at all.
Interesting then that there are so many rumours about programming ( double headers ), entry costs, venues etc.
I remember a headline about the US invading Iraq because they had Weapons of Mass Destruction and we know how that went.

The number of teams/clubs is irrelevant, surely discussions on the draw, double-headers, entry cost etc would take place even if the number of clubs is remaining the same?

Agreed. I was referencing the "rumours" about the 8 team competition.

Pretty uneducated comment IMHO, the SANFL is a growing comp as distinct from the Power going south big-time, but even we can see if the licences go back to the AFL, and both sides field seconds sides that availability of players will be reduced.
Looking forward, instead of sticking your head in the sand, setting up an 8 team competion, provides for the above likelyhood and mantains a standard of quality in the SANFL, not to mention creating a strong interest in the comp from the paying public.
It also increases SANFL clubs chances of advertising revenue from a limited field of left over potential club sponsers, player payments/salary Caps could then be distributed a bit more user friendly.
If I look back sometime ago now, it was said that adding 2 clubs would kill off the SANFL, didn't happen; same again by cloning the Eagles from Woodville/West Torrens, didn't happen; Forming 2 AFL sides had more of an impact on the SANFL, but again it still exists and growing again.
Port Magpies signed their death warrant by becoming one club with the Power, The Power will regain strength if they can stabalise, then increase cash flow, decrease costs (not add to it by fielding into another comp, the SANFL) have their Oval (Alberton) and their own Hotel and gambling facility which they took off the Magpies with the incorporation of "One Club".
Port Magpies will be missed, but not for long; as all the other examples provided, life goes on and the Sun doesn't rise and fall at Alberton.
Cheers,
