All this talk about airfares is irrelevant. The NT Thunder currently fly interstate every second week.

And the opposing clubs all fly to either Darwin or Alice once a season. (Note that Thunder play half their home games at Alice).

Whenever a Queensland team comes in a fair contingent of supporters accompany them so there would be reason for an airline to sponsor these trips because there is business in it for them.

There is also good business for the clubs as it is an annual trip for supporters and sponsors as well as increased exposure for sponsors.

I think that there would also be increased media interest if there was an interstate rivaly aspect to the comp (a la Foxtell Cup). If there is then this will attract sponsors to SANFL clubs.

My mail is that one SANFL club has had a very poor year financially and may be trying to stay out of being insolvent. The blunt truth is likely to be that the SANFL administration would rather see it fall over and go to 8 teams than go the route of expansion to 10.

Successful companies expand in times of hardship, ones that fall over generally sell off their assetts and cut back until there is nothing left and they fall over and are picked off by the competiton. Can see it coming a mile away to the SANFL from the AFL sadly enough. AFLSA will likely be the new administration.

It would be the same club it always is... South of the city.....

Speaking of which I think all clubs would be doing it tough in the financial stakes this season.

I can assure you its neither Sturt nor Glenelg. Would rather not name the actual club as I would rather let the media run its normal course and not be accused of making stuff up!

OK, well then am I right in saying it's not Sturt, Glenelg, Central, North, Norwood, Woodville West Torrens, Port or West?

One out of two aint bad then by your reckoning , as all Woodville really achieved was to drag West Torrens down ever so slowly till both were never a genuine threat . Now its how it should always have been , why obsess with even numbers ie. ten or eight , its meaningless . Even now Glenelg , West , Eagles and Port are jammed fairly tightly together in the western suburbs , imagine the Peckers still in amongst those clubs now , then compare Centrals , Norwood and South ! Anyhow $ dictates NT wont happen , no way !

BTW, The NT Thunder are part of the NEAFL. I reckon Andy D is handing over some of the coin there. Do you think he'll do so as gladly to strengthen the SANFL?

I wondered that too. But given it is the Thunder who are initiating this move I guess that they now where the land lies and whether the AFL support is transferable.

They used to, they still are quite asset rich but I don't believe that they are generating the income that they used too. A couple of years ago there were rumours that they were going to sell off Richmond and move to Thebarton, but I don't know whether that was pure speculation or whether it came close to fruition.

I believe that their coach is very highly paid.

What I would suggest is that if you want to head out for a meal I am sure the WAFC would very much appreciated it if you called in there. My mail is that patronage is not going as well as they might like and that the Pokies Room is very quiet on a number of occassions.

Again I would much rather let a member of the club explain it all in more detail or for the actual club to make their own statement. I am pretty sure the club has stated quite openly in the past that for their licensed club to make money it has to be set up as WWT have with the club at the ground being off set by a popular venue on a main road. With the GFC a lot of sponsors across the SANFL are reconsidering their level of sponsorship and West need a massive injection of coin to move the venue or to have a second venue. If the rumour re being on overdraft is actually right then its going to complicate matters in a major way if additional funds are needed simply to pay the existing as opposed to increasing the debt then its fairly obvious to get an understanding of where things may be at. Again its all the more reason to head down there and give them some support any way that you can.
