Congratulations to North. You played well and desered to win.

The bad news is soon rumours will start that you are breaching the salary cap - how else could you knock off the top side?

on the rails wrote:North's lack of height in defence would have cost the game if Centrals had even 2 or 3 of their missing talls they had out. We were lucky and as I said pre-game, Ivens is not a key tall defender and Havelberg "towelled" him up easily on the one on ones. It is too much to expect the likes of Ivens, McIntyre, Cunningham and Gallman who have over the past few years been expected to stand blokes 3 or 4 inches taller and generally with bigger bodies too.

Why Francou didn't have Boras and Mason in the side is still a mystery - especially seeing our tallest defender in Miles looked mismatched against Sutherland early and then spent the bulk of the rest of the game in ruck?

This week we get Alleway back and assuming we hold onto Stewart that makes us a little stronger in defence if Allers plays CHB. I would bring him Boras and Mason in and we will lose Allan to injury and leave out Kangar and Hanniford - simple really but some of the selections this year have been baffling?

North needs to go on and close the season now with at least 4 more wins - West, Sturt, Port and South are all very winnable, Norwood and the Dogs wt we have proven we can match and beat the top sides. However which "North" will front at Richmond next week?

Do remember a post from pre-match where the coaches selections were lambasted by certain North die-hards. Boras and Mason were soundly beaten in the reserves and will need to do better to get back to the leage side IMHO. I like you have a high opinion of both these fellas and have no doubt that they will be regular A graders . Team selections were spot on against the Dogs and the Francou game style is working . Credit to Josh and Co where it is due.
Best game by the Chooks this year against the premiers. Two gun players out, Allerway and Allen for a half, the bench depleted with Allen out for the game, two debutants in the side and they beat the top side by 30 plus points. How sweet it was, to NOT HEAR the you dogs chant at Rooster Park !!!!!!!
Well played and to my calculations we only gave the dogs 2 clear goals from stupid turn-overs, things are looking up. Miles had his best game for the club and out rucked his opponent in Sutherland with ease. Well done Todd.

BP on radio reported that Cam Milne was the 19th player on the park today and was eliminated from the match

Another issue raised was, IF CD had 19 men on the park, was their an opportunity for NA to ask for a count
This would have made the CD score back to zero ?

What happened ?
Freddy Bills , Johnny Cassin might be interested, and I definately am

Can anyone confirm

Well done North..

Was a general statement about the past couple of months. While we lost yesterday, we were in the game for 3.5 quarters.

While bottom defeating top is rare: viewtopic.php?f=30&t=2506, in hindsight, North are a far better team than a bottom of the table side for a long time. You only have to look at the percentage for a start. Plus, this is exactly when those two or three losses occur - when it's impossible to miss the double chance.

What is more surprising from this match, that Central conceded 37 scoring shots. The highest amount since Glenelg won with 22.16 to 7.11, Rd 3 2006.

This is the occasions where Central conceded 30 or more from 2000:

I hadn't been to Prospect for a while. What's with the siren? If it was a close game you wouldn't have been able to hear it. It sounded like a muffled fart.

Port were 8th - although only % off last. West defeated Port in 2006 when they were bottom and top.

Ryan O'Connor did the same thing. Looked great, got plenty of the ball but he let's you set up and the next kick isn't damaging enough.

Not too worried about the height issue just yet. Obst's loss was always going to sting when his most logical replacements were Henderson and Gunston who both are likely to play a few games for the crows. Might not see them back for the rest of the AFL season either. Down back, we've got Hayes and Sibenaler to come back in and Hardy will be better for the run. Gill was good today (and somehow kicked straight!) but he won't get a kid with a corky every week. I get the feeling North are in a similar position, Havelberg smashed Ivens playing full forward in a side with a badly beaten midfield. If Ivens is going to have to take the best key forward every week they won't win too many.

Was looking at this block of 4-5 games before the split round as a patch we were likely to drop a couple of games. Walking to the game I was even thinking we were somehow a chance to escape winning them all! But not to be, North did the job but one wonders whether the massive celebrations like a bunch of 12 year olds winning a GF after every last quarter goal says something about where they're at right now.

Hey Grahaml i seem to remember our crowd celebrating in similar circumstances in the game where centrals beat glenelg earlier this year where we had 17 fit players on the park. Good on north they were brilliant. If they keep can that forward line and work on defence over the next year or two north will be a real contender.

Well done to North on a good win yesterday. They were far more hungry for the ball, ran us off our legs and took great advantage of their tall forward line. Not so great an effort from our boys but you have to be proud of the way they had been winning despite being understrength in previous games.
As Spelly pointed out, the biggest concern for us from this game is that we let a side have 37 scoring shots against us, a rare thing. Full credit to North for this but it also means our defence needs to get tighter.
I can't understand why North have only won four matches for the year. With their list and the way they played yesterday they really should be a top three side.
As for us, at least we get to play the bottom side two weeks in a row - let's hope for a better result against the new bottom side!
Cheers

I think Grahaml would be referring to the players celebration after one goal in the last to seal the win. Sam Mayes kicks his second goal in league footy at the age of 17 in his first game at league level. The team rally around in a show of support for a future gun player possibly. Anybody criticizing that behavior should have a good look at themselves.Great team building stuff that all sports indulge themselves in. As for the mob in front of the grandstand and The Tarj well if ya dont like that sort of celebration then piss off and dont come back cause I think there is gunna be more of the same in years to come.

One of the best text messages I got was 3 o'clock this morning when entering Darwin Harbour. It just said "U Reds".

After reading this thread, some of you have got to be the most miserable pricks alive. North supporters saying "we only beat their reserve side", Centrals supporters bagging over the top celebrations, Norwood supporters who can't even troll properly and Mods that don't have a life. Can't believe one of the better posts on here was Jimmy. Cheers. Centurion, hope you enjoyed yourself, but then again, I get the feeling you do no matter what. ;)

Are North supporters happy with how they've gone so far this year? Just about every SANFL supporter doesn't think North deserve to be near the bottom of the ladder yet they are? On paper you have a good team. Why aren't you winning more games?

A few weeks ago I went through the teams in the budget and worked out the average age of each side and North was the oldest (that may have changed in the last few weeks), so I don't think you can put it down to inexperience.

Is it a case of the players getting used to the new coach or something else?
