A lot of Glenelg supporters seem happy that rowey is gone. As much as he can be a loudmouth when he talks about footy he sounds like he knows alot

I think that a lot of Glenelg supporters don't agree with the way he comes over as a drongo.

Metcalf said he had spoken to all the Assistant coaches personally and they all agreed to see the season out. EXCEPT Steven Rowe, who he left a voice message for to speak about it later tonight

Does that mean Massie wants them as assistant coaches or is he being made to have them as assistant coaches!

Also think their anger towards him was about the amount of time he was dedicating to the Tigers and that on more than one occasion he refered to the Redlegs as 'his' or 'mine'

When Mickan coached the Eagles, I thought he resurrected a 'stale' club on and off the field. For that I am eternally grateful as that has lead to the strong and successful club we have today. A few of us though had some doubts that if he stayed, he could win us a premiership. As with several bays posters, we felt his match day coaching was just a little lacking.

Rowey seemed pretty popular among the Brighton Rd faithful when they first started turning things around, was it once he assumed KG's role that the supporters went off him?

I don't know about 'last', but Neil Kerley was sacked after being runner-up in 1962 and winning a flag the year before.

Merv Keane 1988 after Elimination Final loss. Not sure if he's the most recent but he's the last one I remember.

That wasn't a popular decision either. Also was the beginning of your wooden spoon run.

Kym Hodgeman took Glenelg to a Grand Final in 1992, and Mark Williams took over in 1993. What was the story there?

How long has Metcalf been the El Presidente at the Bay? Has a bit of the Jaworskyj's about him I reckon.

Just imagine ... if Glenelg had kicked better for goal in the 2009 second semi, things would be looking very different now. They have not won a final since and now they are a shattered rabble.

Nobody who saw their effort @ Elizabeth would be surprised. They seemed to be trying to play AFL style footy without AFL quality players.

Glenelg sacked Kym Hodgeman after losing the 1992 Grand Final because they wanted a coach that "could beat Port Adelaide in a final", and didn't make the GF again till 2008. I can see something similar happening here with the revolving door being reinstalled at the club next to the coaches car park.

Metcalf was a disgrace on radio tonight. I wanted them to remind him of his own quote about 5 weeks ago......

"I've never heard of any team winning a premiership after sacking their coach half way through the season"

Yet he rabbits on tonight about how the season is not lost, blah blah...

Mark Mickan turned things around and is probably a victim of his own success with "only" being 5th at the half way mark..

I hope I'm wrong, but can't see Massie getting much more out of what looks like a tired, disinterested and lazy bunch of blokes right now.

Result will depend on who Ian Callinan plays for ;)

Back on track...

I think Glenelg should have handled this situation better, I do feel sorry for Mickan - should have been given the respect to see the year out.

why? so we can go further down the gurgler? nup - marks time had come and the players obviously werent hearing his message anymore, the club made a mistake not parting ways at the end of last season, i really rate massie as a coach and am excited in regards to the rest of the year whereas 2 hours ago i wasnt

To be fair he may have wanted Mickan to stay but got out voted by the board?

Every time I hear of a sacked coach, I question the players.

They are grown men, and should be able to motivate themselves to work hard for each other. You don't need to be screamed at by the coach to run harder, attack the ball etc.

You should hear a centrals huddle when they are losing!! They are not quiet and heads down waiting for the tirade from the coach, they are screaming at each other to pull it together!!

I expect a massive Glenelg turn around in energy for a couple of weeks and then they will drop down to the pitiful bunch of dribble they were last weekend.

I liked Mickan, he brought a joke of a team up to league leaders for a few years. They just fell over in the finals because of the weak minded lazy players, playing on their arses looking for frees.

Now Mickan has to live with the indignity of being sacked. Kudos to him, as every week he blamed himself when his team performed poorly. Maybe the players finally believed him when they knew it was their own fault and slackened off.
