Not sure if this is the right thread but on the game .....
South held on after being headed late in the game which in itself is an ecouraging sign. South did use its pace to advantage by trying to make as many contests as possible. Sturt were let down by poor disposal (which often comes from opposition pressure) into their forward fifty. The rebound from half and full back was great to see after last weeks dimal performance.
Brad Crabb had another great game, keeping Duldig kickless. Duldig was being used at times to press down the ground to provide some ruck support which did not work at all. He was blowing hard by the time he got to the stoppage and was unable to get off the ground in the contest. It would be hard to utilise a strength advantage in this scenerio. Kurtze was used a kick behind and whilst he did not have many possessions, made many contests.
Emmanual Irra was found wanting at times. Has plenty of pace but is yet to read the game yet. It will come, only 17 and only played for three years. South is finding that the midfield combo's of Liddle, Stribling, Daniel, Cross, Okeefe with Mcleod wide are getting better with each game as unit. Consistent changes of personel over the last five years have robbed the side of a consistent potent force to provide forward movement.
Up forward, Ainger does look like he has the ability to become a more than useful forward with Wundke. The fullback experiment is over I would think. Jake Veide will be under pressure this week to retain his spot, especially if the crows release Talia. I cant fault his endeavour but he is not getting enough of it. (Who is?).
From the reserves, Petre Rolfe was best for us and showed a lot. He will be very handy to come back. I thought the ommision of Nathan Lyons was harsh but team rules apply to all and showed enough to be up for selection again.
Enough of the football.
Regarding all the comments made about the important things, ground announcer, fireworks, how many Sturt supporters still wear ripples, toilets etc you are all correct. Brilliant. The club is considering taking on board the suggestion from Hooray Punt to replace all the whoha with 100 years of success in order to attract more supporters. If only we had thought of that earlier. Don't deprieve the village mate.
