When is the 2011 SANFL Draw out?

All discussions to do with the SANFL

Its ridiculous for the SANFL to open the season playing second fiddle to the AFL at a match at Football Park. Statistics show over and above that the opening rounds of the SANFL at local grounds under lights attract high numbers, why bastardise that for the AFL?

Will be interesting the reception from the 20 000 odd strong Power supporters towards the NFC members. Having seen first hand what gets melted out to opposition supporters from VFL clubs, one would think it would be along the same with more put with it because of who the opposition is - will probably make a Friday Night Norwood vs Central match at the Parade look like a Sunday School picnic!

Good Luck trying to watch the game.

If it's anything like it used to be before the Crows games, most people weren't interested. They would stand in front of you, walk in and out, talk etc I've even been told by someone there was a comment along the line of "when's this crap over?"

Good move SANFL, resurrecting curtain raisers. NOT!!!!

Can Julian Assange do something useful and leak the SANFL draw?
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.

I would be really really angry if North's first game was a curtain raiser (or any game for that matter).

like i said before it isnt fair to make Norwood play in front of a Power crowd.....like it wouldnt be fair to have the Magpies as a Crows curtain raiser. Looks like the benefits are starting to roll in under 'one Port adelaide' - formed 1996.

I would think that the Coaching staff would see this game as a big plus (big crowd, footy park exposure, traditional rival who has it all going for them etc). If they didn't really want it I would imagine that the Club would advise its members. Norwood do this pretty well.

I would have thought the more likely scenario is that Port are worried about the likelihood of a very small crowd for a game against Gold Coast and so Port's thinking is to bolster it with a Norwood v Port crowd of several thousand. Agreed though that it's disgraceful to sacrifice the opening match to the status of curtain raiser.

The only issue I have with the curtain raisers, is the conditions of entry remaining the same as suburban ground SANFL games - ie., Season Tickets being valid for entry and children being admitted free of charge - Both of which I think will surely happen.

That aside, I don't have an issue with the Norwood fixture for round 1, for the following reasons:

1. The Alberton fixture in recent years between these clubs wasn't getting the attendance Port would have been hoping for or expecting, so from their perspective, why shouldn't they give this a go?

2. Norwood has had a good run in recent years with early season fixtures, particularly round 1 games - Every club needs a turn at the prime fixture, this is Port's.

3. As a Norwood supporter, I expect to go to opposition venues when it is THEIR home game - Whether it's Alberton or West Lakes matters little to me.

In fact to take it further, from my own personal perspective regarding my club, I don't ever see the point in worrying about the draw .. Over the course of the season you're either good enough to beat enough opposition to play finals, or you're not, it's pretty simple and I think blaming the draw is a soft option.
