If you want to take up the pre/post-AFL SANFL eras argument, then you'd also have to agree that a VFL flag pre 1987 or 1991 isn't as worth as much as an AFL flag since.

FWIW I think North are the quiet achiever... they've won quite a number of premierships and when you look back on the years they've won, they've managed to tick one off every decade, which shows they've at least been around the mark for a few years out of every decade.

As for Central, I definitely think the team from 2000-2005 was a better side than the 2006-2010 version. The teams stars were younger and better performing than they are now. The gap has tightened, but I think more so because the Dogs have come back to the fore rather than the rest of the league has improved a lot.

Which, of course, is a bit sad.

Its too bad we can't send the 2003-4 side out on the park against Rudi Mandemaker's team.

Reakon the best non-Central teams since 1991 would be...

Port '92
Eagles '93
Norwood '97

How do they compare against the best Central premiership teams?

FWIW, I have no freakin' idea, living interstate and seeing stuff-all SANFL the past ten years...

Absolutely.

Never really had an era of domination like other clubs.

Sturt had the Oatey era, Glenelg played in umpteen grand finals between 1969-1992 and obviously Central has run amok since 2000.

Consistency is their enemy...

how's this for a stat. Central has played in 13 Grand Finals in its 47 year history, better than 1 appearance every 4 years!

for mine centrals rank top of my lifetime by a long way (dammit!! )
personally i believe that the argument about post afl flags being easier is crap when applied to centrals. if the afl has reduced the standard of the SANFL, and the salary cap hasnt helped either, then for my mind it has made it actually harder for sides to maintain a dominance at the top of the table for such a long period of time.
If the sanfl is weaker and therefore it is easier to win flags, why havent more sides done it lately? with the AFL taking the best and brightest, and the salary cap limiting teams buying a premiership, i think it might make it easier for a team to peak over a short timeframe (say a couple of seasons) before players are either taken by the AFL, or lured to other clubs with more cap room. the fact that centrals have maintained such a dominance over the league for so long in spite of the restrictions makes their achievements far greater in my eyes. and believe me it hurts to say it.

The decade actually started in 1911 and finished in 1920 ( I think you'll find another "decade" that we actually clutch at straws using the same method you did ;) )

In 1919 you drew and then beat Torrens in the Grand Final... unfortunately despite the fact that you knocked Sturt out in the first final, we, as the minor premiers, were able to challenge you in a Challenge Final, which we drew and then won, hence we got the 1919 premiership instead of you. So in many ways, you were robbed one there! :-)
