Rd5 South v Eagles Match Review

All discussions to do with the SANFL

Thanks HJ. I along with a lot of other Power supporters have no idea why Salter isn't in the AFL side at the moment, its obviously a big bonus for WWT that he isn't though.

All 3 will presumably qualify for SANFL finals.

Salter looks the goods. Big body, moves well, draw two or more opponents all day. AFL material.

Put the beer down. Gee , great goal to the woodville or is it west torrens eagles.

The crowd was 80/20. To think that you had more than 600 is laughable. In fact, I think it was 325 West Torrens, 275 Woodville.

You gave up. Never, ever think you can comment about another club.

What's Up Doc?

Ive complimented your coach (as i would have win loose or draw ...cos yeah i am a fan of Ron)....said you team played well (u dont agree that the two players i mentioned played well...sorry just saying what i saw), and tried to make some constructive comments about the bloke doing the announcing on the ground (who i thought quite frankly was a pain in the bum)..and when i said winding up the crowd after the opposition kicks a goal....I meant winding up the Panthers faithful to get behind them if the opposition is getting a bit of a run on...

Sorry if my opinions are not the same as yours ...we allowed to do that here though aren't we??

We will have to agree to disagree about the crowd because i think there was equal noise (car horns included) and colour when both sides kicked goals.

and what have I or the team given up on?
Have a nice night

Went to Noarlunga as a Neutral fan to have a look today. Not a bad game at all, both teams willing to run hard in numbers and attack for the most part. I think South manage to run in numbers better than what the Eagles did and South had more scoring options due to them running hard to get crumbers to the fall of the ball.

I thought the Umpiring was pretty consisitent and they used the same interpretation all day. Something that is rare these days.

These were some of the players that impressed me (I'm sure I have missed some but it's hard when you just using numbers):
South: Thewlis, Horne, Gotch, Rolfe, Warren (well held but stood up in last qtr), Cockshell, McKernan, Williams.

Eagles: Banner, Jarrad, Grocke, Grieger (Held Warren for 3qtrs), Salter, Broadbent, Guilhaus, Lewis, McKenzie

I think of the players listed the South players were more consistent over 4qtrs than the Eagles players.

It looks like being one heck of a season and I can see there being some very entertaining football.

Great win today, fantastic last quarter in particular. Our record against the Eagles has been very poor for a long time so was great to win like we did. We are clearly going in the right direction, looking forward to next week already.

The downside, set my alarm on my internet radio to turn on during the first quarter so I would wake up to Life FM's call. Was really looking forward to it but it didn't work! Thought it was something wrong with the radio but soon discovered it was a problem with Life FM. Was gutted as was really looking forward to listening to it.....

Roll on next week, well done to Ron and the boys :D :D

You little bewty. What a game. Fantastic win. Good quality game in trying conditions. Great to see South play with the intensity, hungar and skill as they did.
It has been a very very long time South has run over the top of a good quality opponent to kick 9 goals in the last quarter. We were playing that well could have kicked 12 or 13 goals. This is what the panther faithful want to see good solid competitive efforts with desire for the ball and eachother. Centre square was terrific with Cockshell, O'Keefe great game he is a quality player, chicken liddle what a goer, McKernan in the last and up forward, horney. murph etc. We have now got a team plan with a good centre line and up front plenty of options with Warren contender for mark of the year today, McKenna presented very nicely, Rolfey couldnt do a thing wrong had the ball on a magnet today, Josh Thewlis great to see him back and in good form and McKernan. I think our backline needs a lot more work still let too many easy goals and marks. I would bring back Carlile add an extra tall body and Sandery will help hopefully next week. Great run from half back line to kick goals limited stuffing around and turnovers which was refreshing to see. It was a very enjoyable game and should give us the confidence to shake a few more sides up during the year. What a close competiton 1 win top to seventh. Anyone can beat anyone just about. Congratulations to Ronny on forming a side that is playing hard competitive good footy from a rabble last few years. Also great to see other supporters praising South on there form. Very heartening from a long suffering panther fan.

Well Done to the Panthers - were the better team on the day. I though the Eagles didn't use the breeze as well as we could of 5-5 in the 1st and 4-0 in the 3rd. The Panthers worked themselves back ito the contest after being 4-1 down early in the first. The Eagles didn't use the ball as quickly, smoothly or as efficiently as they did in the first 15 mins of the game. South's bubble will burst though and I see them tailing off and likely finishing seventh, I can't see them sustaining the same lofty standards all season long. I also believe the ledger between Fuller and Godden will be squared away at 1-1 after the next clash between the 2.

All you eagles supporters should be sending choco a bday card this year as Salter is two classes above SANFL level and how you will probably get five games out of him to qualify for september has me baffled !!!!

Typical comment from a sore loser. Why cant a team and its supporters celebrate a great and unexpected win?

I'm sure Mickyj celebrated harder than that whenever Torrens or Woodville won a match.

I did say well done south why not quote everything !!!
Typical Norwood fan always having that dig about a joined team .

and just to make every south fan happy the lad who plays in your seconds team that I work with .Let me have it all day long !!

From my perspective, Broadbent was ok in small patches like a lot of his teammates, but it seemed Banner needed a run after having last week off as the travelling emergency - he has probably come back down to Earth after a great pre-season.

If I was betting on which of our Power players (if any) is to get promoted, I'd definitely go with Salter.

Banner was on a downer like most returning AFL palyers .not certain why but the "other" afl palyers trained Friday and saturday night.while banner only trained saturday perhaps being an emergency was the reason.
Power players in the seocnds redden and dawson both played well

Agree. Salter's time is now. I love having him with the Eagles, but he really deserves a decent crack at AFL. I believe he will make it - if not Port Power then Gold Coast or West Sydney will have him I reckon.

I had an interesting discussion with an Eagles official on the ground at Noarlunga yesterday during the 3/4 time break...

I made mention to him that Nick Salter was too bloody good for the SANFL and he of course agreed but said was more than happy to accomodate him at the Eagles, naturally.

He mentioned that the Power have 'suggested' to play Nick in a defensive role more regularly because that is where they want to play him, as they did throughout the NAB Cup, with not much success.

I actually said on the Monday Morning RPH Sports Show when we were reviewing this game that the Eagles would win and Nick Slater would kick a bag of 7 or 8 because he is way too good to be playing SANFL...

As Meat Loaf famously said...

Salts is in fantastic form, but in all fairness he will play on a lot better players at other clubs. South's major weakness on the weekend was their lack of height and experience in their backline. Every time it went near him he looked sensational, and i'm certainly glad he's down with us.

Great win from South, congrats to them and to Ronnie Fuller. Always been a fan of his, and its not at all surprising to see some success down there. Great to see the majority of Eagles supporters on here showing some respect as well.
They look very good. May struggle with depth throughout the year, but good signs for the future.

As for the Eags, I wouldn't get too concerned just yet. I will say a couple of things though, With the new gameplan Mick Godden is implementing, we may just lack a yard of pace to really break the lines. We struggled to keep up with Port a few weeks ago, but a bit of experience got us over the line. Didnt get away with it Yesterday unfortunately, so possibly a bit of a reshuffle could be on the cards. Also a bit worried about our defence, although Greiger has been servicable. Scotty Welsh doesn't do enough for mine either. few people have mentioned he could be due for a run behind the footy, not sure of thats the answer, but could be an option. Need a lift out of him regardless.

Just my two cents, Well done South, i'm sure we will bounce back over the next few weeks.
