Also, when is the last time we played round 23 at home? I don't remember one for a while. Unless it was 06. I think I was drunk for that whole season as we were shithouse.

1 home game in the last 7 weeks of the season for Sturt. A split round and a bye in that are included!

Not an ideal run into finals.
I seem to remember Centralsssssss having a bye in round 23 followed by the first week of finals off. Did this happen more then once to them? 2 weeks off before your first final wouldn't be great either. The bye throws up some interesting challenges at times!

I reckon i can remember them having the bye in round 22, played round 23, first week of finals off, won their first final, then another week off, to finally play in the granny. 3 games in six weeks cnat be great either, but i reckon they still won, bastards! happy to be corrected though, i may be remembering incorrectly!

1996, 2002 and 2004 Centrals had the bye in round 22 and claimed the minor premiership resulting in Centrals playing 3 games in 6 weeks (same happened to the Eagles in 2000). 1996 and 2002 we lost the GF, 2004 we belted the Eagles by 125 points.

2007 Centrals had the bye in round 23 and the minor premiership resulting in Centrals having a 2 weeks break from their round 22 game to the 2nd Semi Final. Still beat North by 10 goals in the GF.

No need to rub it in :( i was just pointing out that the challenges of the bye dont seem to be so great for the doggies. i have been trying to forget 07 for two years now! looks like i still need more alcohol therapy :) doesnt help living in the north i might add...

Thanks for the confirmation anyway, i did have a feeling that the once a fortnight games in september\october for the doggies had almost become standard at one time. just wasnt sure as north obviously didnt take part in too many of the finals in those years mentioned above, for a while i thought the last game of the year was early september!!

I thought getting away from the small confines of Unley to bigger grounds, more like Footy Park where finals are played, would be ideal come the closing rounds of the H&A?

Interestingly the WAFL have done the reverse with less Friday Night Games
This from the WAFL Web Site.

2010 WAFL Fixtures
Friday, 11 December 2009 14:56 .FIXTURES are now available for the 2010 West Australian Football League season, which will kick off on Friday, March 19, under lights at Fremantle Oval when the Bulldogs host East Perth.

The number of Friday night games has been scaled back for 2010, with only South Fremantle to host games under lights, starting with the opening game of the season. The 2009 premiers will play three Friday night games at Fremantle Oval all up.

Subiaco and East Perth have chosen to play all of their home games at Medibank Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Country Sports Enrichment Scheme games are being arranged for Wagin, Wongan Hills and Karratha, with dates to be confirmed early next year.

The State clash against Victoria has been pencilled in for May 22.

Perth only had one night game last season IIRC.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

for those who prefer their footy on a Saturday afternoon, this fixture is a disaster. And a Sunday NIGHT game ... what's THAT all about??!! Don't they want people attending the games any more?

I think that ANZAC Day round may be the best of the season.

North and Glenelg on the Saturday, great rivals of years past

Central v Sturt Sunday Afternoon, traditional GF teams meet again
this time at Elizabeth

Norwood v Port Sunday Night, they want to play on this day, here is their chance.

South v Eagles, Monday ... not normally a high drawing game but in this timeslot with Ron Fuller against his old club, there will be a lot of interest.

With a long weekend its a great chance for some SANFL lovers to get to all four games.

I'll certainly be one of those doing so, very much looking forward to this round as well...

Jon Giles, with Sturt now, will face his old team mates at Elizabeth as well which will be interesting...

Some people, myself included, have Sunday night commitments. Whether Monday is a holiday or not, I can't make it. The SANFL seem to think people have nothing else to do than watch football.
